ARRAIGNMENT IN HOMICIDE

          charged in the killing of 87-year-old Annie Lester was arraigned 
          Tuesday in Montgomery County General District Court. James Reed, 51,
          of Christiansburg, has been charged with first-degree murder. He is 
          being held without bond in the Montgomery County Jail. He told the 
          court his name is spelled "Reid," but it remains "Reed" in the 
          official record. Judge Robert C. Viar appointed Radford lawyer 
          Robbie Jenkins to represent Reed. A preliminary hearing has been set
          for Dec. 10. color.
