A federal appeals court has revived the cases of 20 drug defendants who said they were singled out for prosecution because of their race.
In December, U.S. District Judge Raymond A. Jackson of Norfolk dismissed the indictments after prosecutors refused to turn over their working papers to the judge. The defendants, who are black, argued they were prosecuted for alleged crimes while white suspects were given immunity.
The 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled this week that Jackson erred and that prosecutors were not motivated by race.
