12-YEAR-OLD CHARGED WITH ASSAULT

A 12-year-old male student at Addison Middle School in Roanoke has been charged with damaging a school bus and four counts of assault and battery.

Police said the boy jumped on the hood and top of the bus and struck a teacher and three students, including his former girlfriend.

Police said the incident occurred about 4:45 p.m. Tuesday when the boy's 13-year-old former girlfriend and two other girls were preparing to board a school activity bus.

Police said the boy struck one of the girls several times as the former girlfriend and another girl ran and boarded the waiting bus. The boy jumped on the hood and top of the bus and then threw rocks at it, police said.

The boy, whose identity is being withheld because he is a juvenile, broke a window and forced his way into the bus. The girls fled out the emergency exit, but not before the boy pushed the head of one into a window and beat another about her body, police said.

The boy also struck a teacher several times before police arrived and arrested him, police said.

He is being held without bond in the city's juvenile detention home, police said.
