$50,000 GOAL SET FOR WALKERS

The American Heart Association will sponsor the five-mile, fifth annual Roanoke Valley American Heart Walk Sunday at 1 p.m. at Green Hill Park.

Registration begins at 12:30 p.m.

"Last year we raised close to $30,000, and this year we hope to raise $50,000," said Victoria Longley, Roanoke Valley area director for the Virginia Affiliate of the American Heart Association.

Participants collect donations in advance of the event. Funds raised will be used to support research and community education programs and will be turned in the day of the walk.

Walkers won't need to win one of the many prizes to benefit from the event, said Longley. "Walking is the heart-healthiest thing you can do for yourself."
