VINTON SEWER LINES WILL CROSS PARKWAY

The town of Vinton has authorized extension of sewer lines to the east of the Blue Ridge Parkway along Mountain View Road (Virginia 651).

At the same time, the town will install a water main for $29,324 so the town-owned Falling Creek water system east of the parkway eventually can be connected to the town's main system on the west side of the parkway.

Town Council approved the work this week when it awarded a construction contract to the E.C. Pace Co. of Roanoke for $192,175. Pace's bid was the lowest submitted by three companies.

Cost of the sewer line work is $162,850, but the town will pay only $94,574. The remainder will be paid by the developer of the Wolf Creek subdivision.

Town Manager Clay Goodman explained to council that the sewer line work will be a joint project between the town and the developer.

Originally, the developer was to have paid the full cost of the sewer extension, but Goodman said town officials wanted to extend the line along a different route so it could serve the entire Wolf Creek drainage basin, not just the subdivision.
