Ohio's loss Dublin's gain?

The Volvo GM Heavy Truck Corp. on Thursday announced the merging of its Orrville, Ohio, truck assembly plant into the Dublin plant by April.

Company officials won't comment on whether this bodes wells for Southwest Virginia. But if current production rates are maintained, the move would increase daily production at the Dublin plant by 15 trucks. For more details, see story on Page B6.

Tech reaches out to businesses

Virginia Tech will open a public outreach office and has picked 19 new advisers with the goal of focusing more on economic development.

President Paul Torgersen on Thursday named business and economic development officials from across the state to the Virginia Tech Economic Development Advisory Committee.
