WIRTZ PEDESTRIAN HIT BY CAR, KILLED

A man walking on a Franklin County back road was hit by a car and killed Wednesday night.

Henry Roosevelt Green, 63, was walking alone about 10 p.m. on Virginia 900 near his home in Wirtz when an eastbound car hit him from behind, Trooper Wayne Stone said.

The driver of the car, Doris D. Brown, 70, of Wirtz, was not hurt.

Brown doesn't face any charges, although the investigation hasn't been completed, Stone said.

A blood test on the victim is being conducted. Stone said he does not believe that alcohol was a factor in the incident.
