Sarah Hicks scored nine straight points late in the fourth quarter Thursday as Lord Botetourt broke open a tight game and turned back Alleghany 53-43 in a Blue Ridge District game in Low Moor.
Hicks finished with 19 points and Sara Moore added 11 for the Cavaliers (16-1, 9-1).
Katie Craft tallied 14 points to pace Alleghany (10-6, 5-4).
In other games:
Craig County 44, Highland 32: Sommer Horn scored a game-high 17 points to lead the Rockets past the Rams in a Pioneer District matchup in New Castle.
Tough half-court defense in the third quarter proved to be the difference as the Rams were held to only six points. Horn outscored Highland by herself in the quarter, scoring seven points for the Rockets (2-15, 2-5).
The Rams (2-8, 0-4) were paced by Tammy Shifflett, who scored 10 points.
Northside 59, Rockbridge County 32: The Vikings (14-2, 9-1) got a balanced effort to down the visiting Wildcats (0-16, 0-10) in a Blue Ridge District contest.
Sophomore Amber Kern and senior Amy Heath each had 10 points and four Vikings recorded three steals each. The Vikings were able to outrebound the taller Wildcats 33-26.
Elizabeth Faulkner led Rockbridge County with seven points.
Covington 55, James River 46: Melissa Page scored 14 points to boost the Cougars (10-4, 6-0) past Pioneer District foe Knights (6-10, 4-3) in Covington.
Full-court pressure in the second quarter was troublesome for the Knights, who only scored four points during the stanza. Charli Laws added 13 points for the Cougars.
The Knights were led by Julie Firebaugh, who scored 15 points.
