Annexation is close to approval, but not close enough, the Giles County Board of Supervisors said Thursday.
Two weeks ago, the board sent a new resolution on the plan back to the Pearisburg Town Council for boundary revisions asking assurance of water and sewer service and lights, mostly in Bluff City.
Bluff City is a developing area across the New River from Hoechst Celanese Corp.'s Celco plant.
The town took bids two months ago on a new sewer project to serve residents and businesses in the 446-acre Bluff City area. The project is near a sewer treatment plant built in 1993.
Contracts for the project will be completed in March, said Ken Vittum, town manager. However the Giles board's Thursday vote urged a speedier time table.
"I'm sorry, but 10 years is too long," Supervisor Barbara Hobbs said.
The Pearisburg council's proposed new plan "don't guarantee nothing," said Supervisor Larry Blankenship.
"We're close, but some changes will mean a lot to those people there," said Supervisor R.W. Williams. "It's important to the commercial people, but there are a lot of poor people there too."
