The Community Observer Corps is a coalition of community organizations that monitors several of Montgomery County's elected and appointed boards each month. Following are the corps' comments for September. Observers this month were the League of Women Voters of Montgomery County and Montgomery County Mainstream Citizens.
MONTGOMERY COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD
PLUS
1. Grant given to families of Riner fifth-grade students for personal computers to be used in the home.
2. Eight residents spoke on the appointment of the principal for the proposed Riner- and Bethel-area elementary school.
MINUS
1. Five and one-half hours of executive sessions, which are closed to the public, in three meetings.
MONITORING
1. Appointment of a new School Board Finance Committee to oversee school funds.
MONTGOMERY COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
PLUS
1. A 70-minute public hearing on funding of the six-year secondary road plan.
2. Power line discussion with decision to retain 1994 resolution. Five residents spoke.
3. Agreed that Montgomery County playground equipment needed replacement and allocated funds.
4. No executive session was held for one meeting.
MINUS
1. Two hours and twenty minutes of executive sessions for the month.
MONITORING
1. Discussions to further cooperation between the School Board and the Board of Supervisors on school site selections.
