The Roanoke Rush will host the Carolina Hurricanes in the first round of the National Minor League Football playoffs at 7p.m. Saturday at Victory Stadium.
The Rush (9-1) won the South Atlantic Division regular-season title after defeating the Knoxville Crusaders 12-6 Oct.19. That victory also gave Roanoke home-field advantage throughout the postseason.
Carolina (8-3-1) is the South East Division runner-up.

* Matt Chandler and Brandon Shively each shot 79s to lead Franklin County to a 323 total and fourth place after the first day of the Group AAA golf tournament at Hermitage Country Club in Richmond.

* Stonewall Jackson-Mount Jackson dominated the opening day of the Group A golf tournament at Lonesome Pine Country Club in Big Stone Gap.
The Generals' Troy Copenhaver leads the individual standings with a 1-over-par 72 and teammate John Weissborn is tied for second at 74. The top Timesland golfers on the first day of competition are Eric Hooke of Highland and Matt Smiley of George Wythe at 80.
Stonewall Jackson's 315 total leads the team competition, 19 strokes ahead of second-place Buffalo Gap. George Wythe (341) is fourth and Glenvar (344) is fifth. (Scores in Scoreboard. B4)

* The Virginia Tech women's tennis team advanced to the finals of last weekend's Rolex Intercollegiate Tennis Association regional team championships at the University of Pennsylvania and Princeton University before falling 6-2 to Harvard.
Five Tech singles players and two doubles teams advance to the ITA championships Nov. 8-11 at Williamsburg.
* The Virginia Tech golf team completed a three-round total of 908 to finish ninth in the Duke Classic in Durham, N.C.
Tech seniors David Havens (223) and Curtis Deal (225) finished 11th and 18th, respectively.
Virginia Commonwealth (880) finished first and the Rams' John Rollins (213) was the medalist.
* Gary Myers won the 150-lap SMART modified feature at Franklin County Speedway on Saturday night. Frank Flemming finished second and Junior Miller was third.
In the Late Model division, Billy Martin won the 50-lap feature, followed by Bruce Crews and Jerome Mullins.
Mike Dudley took the checkered flag in the 50-lap feature race, with Steve Hurley in second and Wayne Corprew third.
Steve Cannaday won the Rookie race, with Gereld Wingfield second and Harland Dalton third.
The Pure Stock race went to Dean Cannaday, while Kevin Ransom was second and Mike Looney third.
Bill Lacks won the Classic Modifieds race, followed by Sonny Arrington and Willie Myers.
Patrick Evans was the AnyCar victor.
