Patrick County used a big second quarter to defeat Martinsville 59-50 and gain a tie for the Piedmont District lead Monday night in Stuart.
Holly Weber scored 14 points to lead the way for the Cougars (14-3, 5-2), who outscored the Bulldogs (11-6, 5-2) 20-5 in the second. Sommer East added 13 points and Anitra Huff 10 for Patrick County.
Tiffany Watkins had 15 points and Erica Brandon scored 14 for the Bulldogs.
Rural Retreat 70, Fort Chiswell 60: Kristy Osborne scored 20 points to lead the Indians past the Pioneers in a non-district matchup in Fort Chiswell.
Mary Brewer had 13 points and Jane Grubb added 10 for Rural Retreat (11-5).
Amber Gunter scored 17 points to lead the Pioneers (9-8), who trailed 18-9 after one quarter and never recovered. Kelly Reynolds had 12 points and Amy Coleman added 10.
