SENIOR SERVICES OFFERS ADVICE

New River Valley Senior Services Inc. has six sites that provide people over age 60 with help with nutrition, education, shopping and social activities. The agency provides transportation to its sites, which offer hot, nutritious meals, social activities and specialized shopping. For information and eligibility requirements, call the New River Valley Agency on Aging at 980-7720 or 639-9677. The group meets at the sites from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

The sites include: the Blacksburg Community Center on Patrick Henry Drive; Pine Ridge Apartments activity room on Penn Street in Floyd; New River Valley Agency on Aging on East Main Street in Pulaski; Christiansburg Community Center on Montgomery Street; Giles Senior Center on Wenonah Avenue in Pearisburg; and the Radford Senior Center basement on First Street.

Flu and pneumonia shots will be given at the Pulaski Senior Center from 8:30 to 11 a.m. today. The shots are free to Medicare and Medicaid recipients with valid cards. For others the cost is $7 for a flu shot and $15 for a pneumonia shot. For information, call 980-1000, ext. 60. Flu shots will be given from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the Blacksburg Senior Center. They are free to Medicare and Medicaid recipients, and $9 for others.

* Thursday, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., flu shots for $9. Free for Medicare and Medicaid recipients with valid cards.

* Thursday, 5:30 p.m. Lasagna dinner at the senior center. Bring a salad, bread or dessert. Call to sign up.

* Friday, noon-2 p.m., senior identification cards will be made. The cards qualify holders for discounts and services at participating businesses and organizations.

* Friday, 7 a.m., trip to Jonesborough, Tenn., for Jonesborough's Times & Tales. Transportation fee: $5 for seniors, $10 for ages 21-54.

* Monday, 11:30 a.m., lunch and slide show.

* Thursday, 10 a.m., quilt design sweatshirt class. The class is free, but you must bring your own sweatshirt and thread. Register by calling 731-3634 or 731-5009.
