Lefty Driesell has been assured he can remain the men's basketball coach at James Madison at least until he posts the 700th victory of his career, which likely would come no sooner than the 1997-98 season, a newspaper reported Tuesday.
Athletic director Don Lemish told the Daily News-Record of Harrisonburg that he and university president Ronald E. Carrier discussed Driesell's future after the Dukes went 10-20 during the 1995-96 season.
Driesell, 64, has won 667 games. The Dukes would need to go unbeaten until the Final Four to give Driesell 700 victories this season.
