The Salvation Army Christmas Bureau will accept applications through 3 p.m. today at the Corps Community Center, 724 Dale Ave., S.E. for those needing assistance during the holiday season.
Social service agencies, churches and civic groups distributing Christmas relief may use the services of the bureau as a clearinghouse to avoid duplication of aid.
Residents of Roanoke City, Salem, Vinton and the counties of Craig, Franklin, Botetourt, Floyd, Bedford (Vinton side) and the town of Boones Mill are eligible.
Anyone not receiving public assistance must apply in person. Those receiving welfare are requested to apply with their case workers.
Positive identification and proof of the number of persons residing in the household must be furnished, as well as birth certificates or Medicaid cards for children 14 and under, proof on income for all household members and proof of expenses (rent, utilities, gas, etc.).
