BISHOP, Judith Marie, 49, of Christiansburg, died Tuesday, October 22, 1996, in a Salem hospital. She is survived by her husband, Frank R. Bishop; a son and daughter-in-law, Steven R. and Lisa Bishop, Belspring; her mother, Hazel Scaggs, Riner; two sisters, Willodean Bower, Sharon Renee Earles, both of Riner; and a brother, Charles Scaggs, Radford. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday from the Richardson-Horne Funeral Chapel conducted by the Rev. Wayne Burnette, with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Richardson-Horne from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

CALDWELL, Jack A, 95, passed away Tuesday, October 22, 1996 at his residence in Independence, Va. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mila Payne Reynolds Caldwell. He was a retired mechanic at the VA Department of Transportation, Grayson County and an honorary member of Independence Vol. Fire Dept. Surviving include two nieces, Nelva Jane Ward, New Castle, Va.; Lorene Noell, Roanoke, Va.; several great- nieces and nephews also survive. A memorial service will be conducted Friday, October 25, 1996 at 11 a.m. in Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel, Independence, Va. The Rev. Fred E. Jennings will officiate. FLEISHER, Matthew J., Sr., 67, of Roanoke, passed away Tuesday, October 22, 1996. Surviving are his wife, Jewel Fleisher; two daughters and a son-in-law, Meri Brizendine, Roanoke, Kimberly and Robert Jones of Ruckersville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Matthew J. Jr. and Cinde Fleisher, Stanley and Angel Fleisher, all of Roanoke; a stepdaughter and husband, Pat and Bob Adams; stepson, Larry Burns, all of Florida; two sisters, Toni Delaney, Phil., Pa., Stella News and husband, Jack of Warminster, Pa.; nine grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren. A Christian wake service will be conducted at 6 p.m. Thursday at Oakey's Vinton Chapel. FRANCIS, Verna Hall, 89, of Burlington, N.C., formerly of Bluefield, W.Va. and Roanoke, Va., died Wednesday, October 23, 1996 at Alamance Regional Medical Center. She was born in Marion, Va. to the late Edgar R. Hall and Virginia Oakes Hall and was the widow of the late Maurice Russell Francis. Mrs. Francis was a member of Windsor Hills United Methodist Church of Roanoke, Va. Survivors include her daughters, Mrs. Betty Francis Miller of Denver, Col., Mrs. Patricia Francis Breuninger of Hoboken, N.J., Mrs. Laura Francis Campbell of Burlington, N.C.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, October 25, 1996 in the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Roanoke, Va. with the Rev. Donald E. Carlton, Pastor of Windsor Hills United Methodist Church, Roanoke, Va. officiating. The body will remain at the Rich & Thompson Mortuary in Burlington, N.C. until time to be taken to the cemetery for the graveside service. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

GRAY, Nadine McClanahan, of Roanoke, and formerly of Grundy, died Wednesday, October 23, 1996. She was retired from the V.A. Medical Center. Surviving are her husband, James Robert Gray; two sons, James Clifford West, Las Vegas, Nev., Joel K. McClanahan, Richmond; five grandchildren, Davi d West, Chris West, Carol West, Michael McClanahan, Karen McClanahan; a foster daughter, Mary Burton, Salem; four sisters, Opal Rash, Rural Retreat, Joyce Ann Chaney, Grundy, Della Jerica, Cleveland, Ohio, Mary Hipps, Carpentersville, Ill.; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday from Oakey's Roanoke Chapel. Interment will follow in Evergreen Burial Park. LAMBERT, Irma Perkins, 75, of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 22, 1996. She was the widow of Pat Lambert, a member of First Baptist Church, and a retired seamstress. Mrs. Lambert was preceded in death by a daughter, Luana Lambert Pearson; and is survived by four sons, Jerry Lambert, Missoula, Mo., Danny Lambert, San Antonio, Texas, Monte Lambert, Missoula, Mo., Dennis Lambert, Columbus, Ohio; three daughters, Patsy Schmauch, Columbus, Ohio, Lois Ares, Fayetteville, N.C., Margie Tiller, Roanoke; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and a brother, Ralph Perkins, Tennessee. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Monday from First Baptist Church (Boxley Chapel) with the Rev. Charles H. Ward and the Rev. Don McCaskill officiating. Interment will be private. Neice of Christiansburg ; daughters and son-in law: Billie ""Betty"" I. and George Cobbler of Narrows, Judy D. PORTER, Guy David, 82, of Christiansburg, died Monday, October 21, 1996, in Montgomery Regional Hospital. ROLLEY, Loyce D., 87, of Roanoke, was sent to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 23, 1996. She was the widow of Henry C. Rolley. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert C. and Margaret Rolley, Roanoke, David C. and Pam Rolley, Bennett, Colo.; five grandchildren, Andrew C. Rolley, Susan R. Parsons, Jennifer R. Rolley, Carol A. Rolley and David C. Rolley Jr.; one brother, Phil Darnell, Chicago. The family suggests that memorials may be made to the Family Life Center of Grandin Court B aptist Church. SNIDER, James Ivan, 83, of Raphine, died Tuesday, October 22, 1996, in Stonewall Jackson Hospital. He was born on June 5, 1913 in Blacksburg, a son of the late Harvey Jackson Snider and Ressie Elizabeth Price Snider. Mr. Snider was retired with 34 years service as operating engineer with General Service Administration (GSA), Washington, D.C. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Cornelius Norwood Monger Snider, Raphine; one daughter, Gloria S. Drawbond, Raphine; two sons, Daniel J. Snider, Oakton, and James R. Snider, Culpeper; three brothers, John B. Snider, Robert H. Snider, and H. Jack Snider, all of Blacksburg; three sisters, Carrie T. Surface, Rebecca Elliott, both of Blacksburg, and Julia Louderback, San Antonio, Texas; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, October 25, 1996, at the Williams Funeral Service Chapel, with the Rev. Phillip D. Mace officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairfield Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Fairfield Rescue Squad or the Raphine First Responders. STEFFEN, Joann Hastings, 61, of Blacksburg, died Tuesd ay, October 22, 1996 at Montgomery Regional Hospital. She is preceded in death by her grandson, Zachary Farthing; and her sister, Florence Craig. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Mitchell and Terry Steffen, Rochester, N.Y. and Patrick and Monica Steffen, Miami, Fla.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Tracy and John Sermon, American Fork, Utah and Kelly and Rick Farthing, Chesterfield; 13 grandchildren, Beth, Brian, Matthew, Jonathan, and Laura Steffen, Rachel, Sydney, Taylor, Jamison Sermon, Rebecca, Benjamin, Jessica, Jennifer Farthing; two sisters, Sylvia Bagley, Minnesota, Virginia Baker, Arizona; numerous nieces and nephews and her very special group of friends at University Bookstore where she has worked for the last twenty years. WILLIAMS, Marguerite E., 89, of Roanoke, died Wednesday, October 23, 1996, in Richfield Nursing Home. Survivors include her aunt, Margie J. Himes, Roanoke. By Mrs. Williams' request, there will be no service. She had donated her body to science.

WOODSON, Danny Roger, 43, of Cloverdale, passed away Tuesday, October 22, 1996. Surviving are his sister and brother-in-law, Mary W. and Don Dunford, Cloverdale; a brother, Leonard W. Woodson, Troutville; several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Troutville Rescue Squad. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
