MARTHA JONES has been presented the 16th annual Secretary's Hands and Hearts Award at the Salem Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Jones, who is a gastrointestinal endoscopy nurse at the center, was cited for her sustained, compassionate and thoughtful patient care.
Roanoke brokerage firm BOONE & CO. has been ranked 194th in the real estate newsletter REAL Trends' top 350 of the largest residential real estate brokerage firms in the nation. According to the newsletter's research, Boone & Co. closed 2,106 residential transactions last year.
GARY M. HERSHMAN of Salem has been named the Horace Mann Companies' 1995 Agency Manager of the Year. He received the honor for the third consecutive year at the annual leadership conference of the educators' insurance group. Hershman, Blue Ridge Agency manager, has been employed by Horace Mann since 1977.
JOHN C. BRAKE of John C. Brake and Associates in Vinton has been named to the Million Dollar Round Table, an independent, international association of life insurance producers that recognizes outstanding sales performance.
M. RUPERT CUTLER, executive director of Virginia's Explore Park, a living history and nature park in Roanoke and Bedford counties, was presented with an Allied Professional Award by the Blue Ridge Chapter of the American Institute of Architects.
I.N. McNEIL ROOFING & SHEET METAL CO. INC. has received the 1996 Partner in Quality award from Firestone Building Products Co. This award is based on the performance of roofing systems over a period of time, in this case from 1988 through 1990.
