NEIGHBORHOOD NAMES WEST

THE ROANOKE CHAPTER OF THE NATIONAL CONFERENCE OF CHRISTIANS AND JEWS has announced new officers for 1996-97. They are:

George "Chip" Snead, president; James Bullion, vice president; Jeri Saurez, secretary, and Diane Kelly, treasurer.

The conference is a nonprofit organization dedicated to fighting bias, bigotry and racism in America.

CHARLES M. JAMES has received the Mary and Jack Conrey 1996 Volunteer of the Year Award from the Roanoke Valley chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.

James was named for his service on the chapter's board of directors and for his work in chairing and serving on various committees over the years.

Two Roanoke residents, MYRTLE HOOKER AND RUTH M.V. FREDERICK, were among the winners in the the 23rd annual Foot of Hills Arts & Crafts Show. Hooker received an honorable mention for her watercolor, "Along the Brazzos." Frederick received a merit award for "Mood Indigo," a pastel.

LEIGH ANNE FERGUSON, daughter of Jean and Bill Ferguson of Roanoke, recently was third runner-up in the Future Miss Scholarship and Recognition Program in Richmond.

The seventh-grader at Hidden Valley Junior High School also was named to the Honor Court.
