Presidential candidate Ross Perot will speak at 3 p.m. Monday at Virginia Tech in an appearance that is open to the public.
The doors to the 3,000-seat Burruss Hall Auditorium will open at 2 p.m., with seating on a first-come basis. The Reform Party candidate's campaign is planning to put a television projector on the Tech Drillfield for people outside to hear the speech, if there is an overflow crowd.
University officials have arranged for special public parking areas on campus for Perot's afternoon visit.
Public parking areas include the Overflow Lot at the Duck Pond, the Grassy Lot at the intersection of Duck Pond Drive and Smithfield Road, and a corner of the Litton Reeves Lot.
Shuttle buses will transport visitors from those parking areas to Burruss Hall.
The visit is sponsored by the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets Center for Leader Development. Perot will address the Corps of Cadets following the public address, but that meeting will not be open to the public.
"Perot's visit is part of the Leaders in Action program that will bring to campus corporate, industrial and political leaders," said Bob Denton, director of the leader center. "With this being an election year, we are pleased to bring Perot to campus as part of our public service mission."
Perot is also speaking at Purdue, Yale and Northwestern universities during the final days of his campaign.
