ARRESTS MADE IN BLACKSBURG ROBBERY

Police have arrested three Blacksburg men and charged them with beating and robbing a Virginia Tech student.

The incident occurred Sept. 27 on Marlington Street when the 24-year-old victim was knocked to the ground. His backpack and its contents valued at $89 were stolen.

Van Buren Collins III and Brian Lee Fleet, both 19, and Robert Berkley Lamp, 21, face robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery charges. They are free on bond, Blacksburg police said.

Collins and Fleet have also been charged with another assault that occurred earlier on the same day.

Police allege the pair knocked down and beat a 14-year-old on the Huckleberry Trail in Blacksburg. The victim escaped with minor injuries.

Dates for preliminary hearings regarding the charges in either case have not been set.
