BROWN, Walter, Jr., 71, of Roanoke, passed away on Friday, October 25, 1996. He was born in West Virginia to the late Walter and Lucille Banks Brown. He retired from the Eaton Corporation. Survivors include his wife, Shirley D. Brown; daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Melvin Thompson, all of Roanoke; son, Joseph Brown, Columbus, Ohio; two grandchildren; sister, Marjorie Cotton, Columbus, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Rosetta Brown and Roberta Brown, both of Roanoke; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Tuesday, 2 p.m., at the Hamlar-Curtis Chapel. Bishop Milton L. Hardy will officiate with the interment in Williams Memorial Park. GAGLIARDI, Elizabeth Ann Manuel, 46, of Blue Ridge, went to the with the Lord on Wednesday, October 23, 1996. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugenia C. Manuel and Hermogenes S. Manuel, Sr. She is survived by her husband, John L. Gagliardi; her son, Jonathan David Gagliardi, both of Blue Ridge; sisters, Mary Carol Manuel, East Windsor, N.J., Margaret Rose Manuel, Roanoke; brothers, John Manuel, Lambertville, N.J., Robert H. Manuel, Miami Springs, Fla.; sister-in-law, Terijo Manuel; and nephew, Taylor Gerard Manuel, both of Miami Springs, Fla.; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. She served as a Special Education Teacher for 23 years and taught at Fallon Park Elementary School in Roanoke for 4 years. She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Salem. She was an active member of the Blue Ridge Cursillo Movement. Prior to moving to the Roanoke Valley, she was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Martinsville, and St. Paschal Baylon, South Boston. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, October 28, 1996 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Salem, with the Rev. Gregory Kandt officiating. Interment will follow in Old Dominion Memorial Gardens. A reception for family and friends will be held at 256 Wildwood Drive, Blue Ridge. GEARHEART, Willie Gross, 82, of Sumter, S.C., formerly of Narrows, Va., died Thursday, October 24, 1996, in a local nursing center. She was the widow of Thomas F. Gearheart. Born in Sanford, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Richard and Bessie Hillard Gross. Mrs. Gearheart was a member of Alice Drive Baptist Church of Sumter and the First Christian Church of Narrows. She was a retired hotel owner. Surviving are two daughters, Becky G. Carter of Greenville, S.C. and Judy G. Hatfield of Sumter, S.C.; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in the Fairview Cemetery in Narrows. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church in Narrows. GENTILINI, Ector V., (``Tony''), 84, of Newport News, died Thursday, October 24, 1996, in Riverside Regional Medic al Center. Tony was a native of Trento, Italy; was raised in Roanoke, Va. and had been a Peninsula native for 60 years. He retired in 1972 from Newport News Ship Yard as a welder with 40 years service. He was a member of St. Vincent dePaul Roman Catholic Church and was a member of the Newport News Retired Men's Club. Surviving are his wife, Lucille Mae Gentilini; his daughters, Barbara J. McCann, Newport News, Sandra L. Owens and her husband, Joseph, Winston-Salem, N.C.; his sister, Ann G. Bisogne, Metuchen, N.J.; his brother, Charles D. Gentilini, Portsmouth; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Vincent dePaul Roman Catholic Church Monday at 11 a.m. with burial to follow in Peninsula Memorial Park. HUBBARD, Magnora, (``Nora''), 86, of Dublin, formerly of Honaker, passed away Thursday, October 24, 1996, at her home. Born in Russell County on February 17, 1910, she was a daughter of the late Shade and Maudie Bell Powers Miller. She had resided in Dublin for the past ten years, moving there from Honaker. She attended the New River Baptist Temple in Dublin, and was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold Hubbard; one son, Jack Hubbard; one brother, Silas Miller; and three sisters, Florence Hess, Rosalee Berry, and Phoebe Miller. Survivors include six daughters, Mrs. Carl (Virginia) Whited of Dublin, Mrs. Jessee (Sadie) Street of Bel Air, Md., Mrs. Ann Marcolina and Mrs. Donald (Myrtle) Myers, both of Baltimore, Md., Mrs. Mary Brewer of Bean Station, Tenn., and Mrs. Garland (Betty) Shepard of Honaker; three sons, James Hubbard, Billy R. Hubbard, and Jerry Hubbard, all of Shelby, Ohio; one sister, Pearl Hubbard of Honaker; seven brothers, George Miller of Lebanon, Earl Miller of Belfast, Beecher Miller of Pulaski, Guy Miller and Hassell Miller, both of Newport News, Cecil Miller and Easley Miller, both of Honaker; 25 grandchildren; 34 great-grand-children; seven great-great-grand-children; three stepgrandchildren; and two stepgreat- grandchildren. MILLS, Ralph Gilmer,42, of 2302 Longview Avenue in Roanoke, died peacefully Thursday evening, October 24, 1996, after a long and courageous battle with disease, surrounded by his loving family, friends, and caregivers at his home. Born in Radford on November 14, 1953, he was a son of Bea Gilmer Mills of Christiansburg, and the late Walter C. Mills. Surviving are his mother; sister, Dwen M. Lilly of Christiansburg; two brothers, Walter M. Mills of Christiansburg and E. Franklin Mills of Beaufort, N.C.; a very special friend, Douglas H. Olson of Roanoke; several nieces and nephews. SPENCER, William Rush, 73, of Atlanta, Ga., formerly of Roanoke, Va., died Thursday, October 24, 1996. He is survived by wife, Elizabeth M. Spencer; daughters, Dawn M. Fuller and Sharon Lynn Yost of Atlanta; five grandchildren, Spencer and Drew Zirkelbach, Zack Fuller, Jordon Marie and Katherine Spencer Yost; sister, Virginia Lee Simmons of Atlanta, and brother, George Barnett Spencer of Atlanta. He was preceded in death by a son, Kirkwood Dudguid, and a daughter, Francis Spencer. He was a retired Sales Manager for Moore Business Forms Inc., and a World War II Army Air Corps veteran who held the silver star, distinguished flying cross and air metal with clusters awarded for participating in heavy air battles during the war. Memorial services will be held Saturday, October 26, 1996, at 5 p.m,. at Wages and Sons Chapel, with Claude Bennett officiating. The body was cremated and the ashes will be entered in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
