NAMES & CHANGES

RBX Corp. elects new president

FRANK H. ROLAND has been elected president and chief executive officer of Roanoke-based RBX Corp., succeeding STEVEN W. SCHAEFER, who will continue as a consultant with the company until his retirement in January.

Roland, former president of Halstead Industries, joined RBX in 1995 when the rubber and plastics portion of Halstead was acquired by RBX and merged into Rubatex Corp. Since April 1995, Roland had been president and chief operating officer of Rubatex, the largest of the RBX operating companies.

RBX manufactures rubber and plastic products and performs custom rubber compounding.

ACCOUNTING

BETTY J. LODEBOLE has joined the Roanoke accounting firm of KPMG Peat Marwick as a tax manager. She formerly was a tax manager with Coopers & Lybrand in Fort Wayne, Ind. Also, ANNABETH CAULDER, JEFFREY A. CRAWFORD, LEWIS A. CONNER and JAMES L. MAUCK JR. have joined the firm's audit staff.

McLeod & Co., a Roanoke certified public accounting firm, has hired PHILIP C. MARO as PC network administrator. He will be responsible for managing the firm's internal network and will also assist clients. Maro is a certified Novell engineer and a Novell-certified Network Three administrator.

BANKING

WILLIAM C. FOREMAN has joined Raleigh, N.C.-based First Citizens Bank as vice president of commercial banking for Roanoke, Blacksburg, Martinsville and Alleghany County. Foreman began his banking career with First National Exchange Bank, later Dominion Bank, in 1976. He became the commercial banking manager for the Roanoke Valley region in 1989, and most recently was senior commercial banking relationship manager for First Union National Bank of Virginia, which acquired Dominion Bank in 1993.

LARRY DANIELY has been named First Union National Bank's new Washington, D.C.-based senior credit officer for the private banking division. He previously was senior underwriter. In his new position, Daniely manages the nine credit departments of all First Union private banking offices throughout the corporation, including those in Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

FIBER OPTICS

MICHAEL NEWMAN has joined Roanoke-based Optical Cable Corp. as sales manager for Latin America. Before coming to Optical Cable, he was sales manager for Latin America and Europe for Klipsch Inc. and was international sales manager for Indiana Cash Drawer Co.

HEALTH CARE

ALLEN WIRT of Salem has been appointed to the national Clinical Specialist Council of Medtronic Inc., a Minneapolis-based medical technology company specializing in implantable devices and therapies for cardiovascular and neurological diseases. Wirt joined Medtronic in 1993. He provides clinical and technical information, education and surgical assistance to physicians and nurses caring for patients with pacemakers and implantable defibrillators.

INSURANCE

G.E. ROBERTSON STILES II has been promoted to manager-corporate resources for Thomas Rutherfoord Inc., a Roanoke-based insurance broker. He will supervise the company's risk control services, quality assurance and business development activities. Stiles joined Thomas Rutherfoord in 1993.

The Roanoke Valley Association of Life Underwriters recently elected the following officers: JOSEPH GILKISON of The Travelers Cos., president; DON A. ASSAID of The Equitable, president-elect; MICHAEL W. PIORO of The Prudential, vice president; DALE E. WILLIAMS of American United Life, second vice president; and GARY W. WILLIAMS of American United Life, secretary/treasurer.

New directors are GERALD W. CRAFT of Dolly Ann Insurance Agency, Covington; HAROLD C. DILL of Dill Insurance Agency, Roanoke; LARRY A. FORBISH of Mutual of New York, Roanoke; JEFF T. HALL of Life of Virginia, Roanoke; DEBORAH M. LAWRENCE of Independent Life, Roanoke; and LARRY N. LILLY of Woodmen of the World, Roanoke.

MANUFACTURING

VERNON J. LITTLE has been promoted to department supervisor-materials planning at Tultex Corp. in Martinsville. Little joined Tultex, a marketer and manufacturer of fleece and jersey active wear, in 1994.

MEDIA

JIM SAUL has been named head of new business development for Cavalier Communications' radio stations WLDJ and WRDJ in Roanoke and Lynchburg. He also will direct sales for the five stations Cavalier operates in Roanoke, including WJJS, WJJX-FM and WJJS-AM. Saul worked for WROV in Roanoke for 23 years and helped establish WROV-FM in 1989, when he became local sales manager, a position he held for seven years.

TRANSPORTATION

RICHARD H. EANES, executive vice president of Warren Trucking Co. in Martinsville, has been elected to the executive committee of the Virginia Trucking Association.
