BOTETOURT'S MOORE PICKS CAMPBELL

Sara Moore has become the second Lord Botetourt High School girls' basketball player to announce her college choice.

Moore, who will join teammate Sarah Hicks in signing during the NCAA's early period in November, says she will accept a scholarship to Campbell University in Buies Creek, N.C. Moore will join her sister Ashley, who is a junior this season for the Fighting Camels. Moore also took official visits to Winthrop and Richmond.

Sara Moore, an All-Timesland player as a junior, is averaging 15.4 points and five assists per game for the Cavaliers. Despite playing the backcourt, Moore also is averaging seven rebounds.

Hicks is committed to Virginia Tech.

SOCCER Roanoke men make it eight in a row

Roanoke College extended its winning streak to eight games with a 3-2 Old Dominion Athletic Conference men's victory over Hampden-Sydney at Alumni Field.

The Maroons (9-3-2 overall, 6-1 conference) got goals from Ryland Dennis, Sam Starkweather and Adam Birch. Starkweather assisted on Birch's game-winner with 12 minutes remaining. The Tigers (8-7-1, 5-3) got goals from Joe Holder and Don Hughes.

* Washington and Lee used overtime goals from Jamie Parker and Gordon Meeker to defeat Randolph-Macon 2-0 in an ODAC men's game in Lexington.

The Generals (10-3, 5-2) got their first goal by Parker five minutes into the first overtime and Meeker scored five minutes later. Mark Cola finished with 13 saves for Randolph-Macon (10-4-1, 4-3), and the Generals' Garry Hill had 15 saves.

* Coastal Carolina got a goal from Jack Aponowicz in the 60th minute to seal a 2-1 Big South Conference men's victory over Radford at Dedmon Center Stadium.

The Chanticleers (6-7-2, 2-3-0) scored first on a goal from Jeremy Eason in the 13th minute. Troy Washington equalized late in the first half for the Highlanders (7-9-1, 3-3-0).

* Kristen Einarson scored at the 86-minute mark to lead Maryland-Baltimore County to a 4-3 Big South Conference women's victory over Radford at Dedmon Center Stadium.

Einarson scored the tying as well as the go-ahead goal for the Retrievers (9-4, 3-2). Theresa Roberts scored the first two goals for UMBC.

Kelly Moran had a strong performance with all three goals for the Highlanders (5-9-1, 1-4-0).

* Amanda Gruber scored two goals as Xavier blanked Virginia Tech 4-0 in an Atlantic 10 Conference women's game in Blacksburg. Amy Reinshagen and Susie Welch also scored for the Musketeers. The Hokies are 8-8-1, 4-3-0.

* Roanoke College and Methodist battled to a 1-1 tie in a non-conference women's game at Alumni Field.

The Maroons (10-6-1), ranked 10th in the NCAA Division III South Region, got on the board 10 minutes into the game with a goal by Meredith Arnott. Methodist (6-3-3), ranked sixth in the South Region, got its goal from Kathleen Greene in the match's last 10 minutes.

* The Washington and Lee women tied a school record for victories in a season with a 6-0 victory over Shenandoah in Lexington.

Leighton Kirby (Martinsville High School) opened the scoring for the Generals (11-4) with a goal in the match's second minute. Michele Bauman, Karin Treese, Erica Reineke, Lorraine Taurissi and Deirdre Coyle also scored for W&L.
