Battle-Hurst

Joli Ayn Hurst and William Lee Battle were united in marriage October 26, 1996 at Second Presbyterian Church. The Reverend A. Taylor Todd officiated at the 4:00 P.M. double ring ceremony. The reception was held at Hunting Hills Country Club.

Escorted by her father and supported in marriage by her parents, the bride is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Price Hampton Hurst, Jr. of Roanoke, Virginia. She is a graduate of Westhampton College, University of Richmond, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History. She is employed by First Union Corporation of Roanoke.

The groom is the son of Mrs. Jane B. Battle and the late William R. Battle, also of Roanoke. Mr. Battle received his undergraduate degree from Bucknell University and his MBA in Finance from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. He is the Common Stock Portfolio Manager for Shenandoah Life Insurance Company.

Mrs. Patricia Anderson Hurst, sister-in-law of the bride, was Matron of Honor. Also attending the bride were Brenda Hayes, Mary Childers, Jamie Greenawalt, Stephanie Campbell Wise, and Junior Bridesmaid Victoria Hanabury, all of Roanoke, Va.

Mr. Paul Peery of Roanoke, Va., was best man. Groomsmen included Jay Hurst, Centerville, Va., Andrew Hurst, brothers of the bride, Hugh Hall, Porter Peery and Junior Groomsman Mark Hanabury, III of Roanoke, Va.

Sandra Chapman attended the Brides Book and assisted the bride.

Following their wedding trip to California, the newlyweds will reside in Roanoke.

Braaten-Brindle

Tammy Ann Brindle and Robert Christopher Braaten were married September 19, 1996 in St. Andrew's Catholic Church. Fr. Randy Rule officiated. The reception was held at Lancerlot Sports Complex.

The maid of honor was Tracy Pendleton, friend of the bride. The bridesmaids were Donna Shropshire and Carla Carter, friends of the bride. Tiffany Wortman, friend of the bride, served as flowergirl and ringbearer.

The best man was Robert Hatcher, friend of the groom. The ushers were Charles Braaten, brother of the groom, and Tim Wortman, friend of the bride and groom.

The bride's gown was white silk with a beaded front, a long train, and a v-neck and back. She carried a bouquet of burgundy roses and baby's breath.

The bride is the daughter of Brian and Arlene Brindle of Goodview. She is a graduate of Staunton River High School in Moneta, and is employed by Lancerlot Sports Complex.

The groom is the son of Christopher and Honor Braaten of Richmond. He graduated from Manchester High School in Richmond, and is employed by Lancerlot Sports Complex.

The newlyweds will live in Roanoke after the wedding trip to the Smokey Mountains in Tennessee.

Burch-Eggleston

Kamela Jeanine Eggleston and Thomas Allen Burch were married October 26, 1996 in Salem Baptist Church. Reverend Lew Bennett officiated. The reception was held at the Hotel Roanoke.

Kari E. Soots, twin sister of the bride, was the matron of honor. The bridesmaids were Ana Williams, Kimberly Sullivan, and Michele Collins.

The best man was Grant Campbell. The ushers were Brian Eggleston, the bride's brother; Dean Soots, Jr., the bride's brother-in-law; and Ron Sullivan.

The guestbook was attended by Kim and Kady Campbell.

The bride is a daughter of Kerry and Betty Eggleston of Winton-Salem, NC. She is a graduate of Randolph Community College in Asheboro, NC, and is employed by The Second Yard, Inc.

The groom is the son of Ms. Ann Burch of Salem, VA, and Mr. Charles Burch of Roanoke, VA. He is a graduate of Randolph Community College in Asheboro, NC, and is employed by Total Audio Visual Services at the Hotel Roanoke. The newlyweds will live in Roanoke, VA, after the wedding trip to New York City, NY.

Annette Mae English and Leo Davis Burnette, Jr., were united in marriage on October 26, 1996 at 6:00 p.m. in Belmont Baptist Church. Rev. Olander English, uncle of the bride, and Rev. Robert Lanier officiated. The reception was held in the church fellowship hall.

The bride, who was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents, is the daughter of Wayne and Sharon English of Roanoke. The groom is the son of Ann Burnette and the late Leo Davis Burnette, Sr. of Bedford.

Michelle McGuire, cousin of bride, served as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Doris Wheeling, sister of groom, Nancy Cannady and Summer Plunkett, cousins of bride, and Michelle Heishman, friend of bride. The flower girl was Lydia Wilson, cousin of bride.

Robert Wheeling, brother-in-law of groom, served as best man. Grooms men were Danny Brown, brother-in-law of groom, Jeff English, brother of bride, Kevin Weeks and Chad Williams, friends of groom.

Donna Lynn Layman and Stephen Matthew Celio were married July 4, 1996 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Franklin D. Brown of Smith Mountain Lake and the deceased Mr. Donald W. Layman of Charlottesville. She is a graduate of Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, where she earned her B.S. in Marketing Management and her M.S. in Vocational Education. She is employed by Loudoun County Public Schools.

The groom is the son of Mr. Richard F. Celio and Mrs. Karen M. Celio of Connecticut. He is a graduate of Gettysburg College in Gettysburg, PA, where he earned his B.S. in Psychology, and George Mason University in Fairfax, VA, where he earned his M.Ed. in Secondary Social Studies Education. He is employed by Loudoun County Public Schools. The newlyweds will live in Ashburn, Virginia.

Estrada-Jackson

Von Lenora Jackson and Edward Estrada were united in marriage on June 26, 1996, at Shiloh Baptist Church in Salem, Va. The Reverend Adrian Dowell officiated the ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. Howard N. Jackson and Mrs. Mary Sue Jackson of Roanoke.

Von is a graduate of William Fleming and attended Virginia Western and Norfolk State University. She is employed by American Airlines in Miami, Florida.

The groom is the son of the late Doctor Emilio Estrada and Mrs. Virginia Estrada of El Paso, Texas.

Edward is a graduate of Hialeah High and attended Miami Dade and Beacon College where he completed his studies in pharmacy. He is employed by American Eagle in Miami, Florida.

After the honeymoon to Jamaica and Cancun, Mexico, Mr. and Mrs. Estrada will reside in Miami, Florida.

Green-Diehl

Windsor Hills United Methodist Church was the sight of the wedding uniting the hearts and lives of Judith Anne Diehl and Mark Wright Green. The open church ceremony was held on Saturday, October 26, 1996 at 11:30 a.m. Judy is the daughter of the late John F. Diehl, Sr. and Marjorie G. Diehl formerly of Johnson City, Tenn., as well as Roanoke. Mark is the son of George R. and Betty W. Green of Memphis, Tenn. The Rev. Tammy L. Estep officiated with the Rev. Donald E. Calton assisting. A luncheon reception was held at Hidden Valley Country Club.

The bride was escorted by her brother, John F. Diehl, Jr. and her brother-in-law, David M. Tanis and presented in marriage by them on behalf of the family. She wore a long sleeve ivory gown of shantung with a full length train. She wore a headpiece of pearls and lace that encircled the crown of the head with a fingertip veil attached. The fitted bodice was adorned with pearls on lace with a sweetheart neckline. She carried a cascade bouquet of white, ivory and yellow roses with ivy, stephanotis and white lilies. She wore her Grandmother Groweg's pearl necklace, a gift from years ago.

Her attendants wore tea length dresses of midnight blue shantung in the style and pattern of their choice accenting each one's taste and personality. Matron of honor was Karen Dieterich Harris, Duluth, Ga., friend of the bride. The bridesmaids were Debbie Tanis, Salem, Va., sister of the bride; Barbie Winstead, New Castle, Va., sister of the bride; Diane G. King, Conyers, Ga., sister of the groom; Kate Tanis, Salem, Va., niece of the bride,' and Kelly Pollock, New Castle, Va., niece of the bride. Caroline and Charlotte Diehl served their aunt as beautiful flower girls, and Jimmy Diehl, nephew of the bride, was the handsome ring bearer. All three are of Defiance, Ohio. Rebecca Land was the guest book attendant.

The groom was honored by best man, David Weatherly, Memphis, Tenn., friend of the groom. Also standing with the groom were Richard Green, Jefferson City, Mo., brother of the groom; Michael Walker, Seattle, Wash., cousin of the groom; Mark Wofford, Paul Tanner, and Will Keeler, all friends of the groom from Memphis, Tenn. Each were outfitted in black tuxedo with pin striped pants, complementing vests and ivory winged shirts, with the groom and ring bearer in a cut away coat and ascot and the groomsmen in a stroller with a 4-in-hand tie.

Judy is a graduate of Cleveland State University and currently is employed by Roanoke Area Ministries as the Volunteer Coordinator for RAM House, their day shelter for the homeless. Mark is a graduate of the University of Memphis, and previously worked in St. Luke's UMC as the Youth Director as well as the University of Memphis in the Financial Assistance Office. He is currently employed by the American Red Cross.

After a wedding trip to Walt Disney World, the couple will reside in Roanoke, Va. Special thanks to all our family and friends for making the day so very special. Thanks also to Lyn Atkins, Christopher Widdoes, Rudy Allen, Polly McFarlane, Robbie Dummit and Old Gold Records. You made it great.

The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Barbara O. Keeling of Roanoke and the late Mr. Percy T. Keeling, Sr. The groom is the son of Mr. Jerome O. Guilford, Sr., Toledo, Ohio and the late Mrs. Lynette B. Guilford.

Grandfather of the groom is Dr. Linwood Binford, Richmond, Va. The honored aunt of the groom was Mrs. Gertrude Banks, Washington, D.C.,

Mr. Percy T. Keeling, Jr. of Roanoke was the escort for his mother and sister.

Master Brent Johnson, Richmond, Va., nephew of the bride, was the ring bearer.

The bride's attire was a silk Shantung Gown designed by Mon Cheri. The beautiful gown featured a Sabrina neckline and short sleeves. The bodice and sleeves were covered with Alencon lace, sequins and pearls. The scalloped trim waistline accented the deep scoop back and rosette bow which flowed into a semi-cathedral train.

The melody of music was rendered by organist, Mrs. Maxine N. Hunt; vocalist were Mrs. Christine K. Payne, aunt of the bride; Mr. Larry Manns, cousin of the bride and Mrs. Doray Walker.

The hostesses were Mrs. Terri Williams, cousin of the bride; Ms. Chandra Blount, cousin of the groom; Mrs. Pamela Curtis, Mrs. Selina Dowe, Ms. Tanya Hughes, Ms. Wanda Reid, Ms. Sherri Roach and Ms. Michelle Watkins.

Mr. J. Thomas Payne, Jr., cousin of the bride, captured the occasion on video.

The wedding reception was held at Fralin Atrium.

James Mathieson officiated. The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents. Organist was Alex Mitchell.

The reception followed at the Danville Museum of Fine Arts and History. The matron of honor was Rene Harcharufka, Charlotte, N.C. Bridesmaids were Kristen Williamson, cousin of the bride, Selma, N.C.; Karen Carter, cousin of the bride, New Castle, VA; Sheryl Hall, cousin of the bride, Fincastle, VA; Tracy Diaz, Tampa, Fla.; Kathy Kincaid, Youngsville, N.C.; and Anne Cathrine Sch rum, niece of the groom, St. Augustine, Fla.

VIRGINIA BEACH - Donna Marie Davies and John Hampton Karr were united in marriage during a nuptial mass officiated by Father James Noto at Saint Nicholas Catholic Church on October 26, 1996. A reception followed at Shifting Sands, Dam Neck.

Rosalinda Henderson served as matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Karen Karr, sister of the groom, Susan Belcher and Rebecca Halpern, friends of the bride.

The bride is the daughter of Theresa E. and Richard H. Davies of Virginia Beach. She graduated from First Colonial High School and received a B.S. degree in Finance at Virginia Tech and a B. A. degree in Accounting at Saint Leo College. She is an accountant at the Coast Guard Finance Center in Chesapeake.

The groom is the son of Donald L. and Ann B. Karr of Roanoke, Virginia. He graduated from Cave Spring High School in Roanoke and received a B. S. degree in Mechanical Engineering at Virginia Tech. He is a nuclear engineer at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth.

After a honeymoon cruise to the Western Caribbean and a trip to Orlando, Florida, the couple will reside in Virginia Beach.

Laura Anne King and Joseph Francis Lynch were married October 26, 1996 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Roanoke, Virginia. Rev. David Tanner officiated. The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents. The bride's honor attendants were her brother, Trace King of Roanoke and her cousin, Meg Biggs of Virginia Beach. Amy Venturino of Richmond, Diane Cuba of Fredericksburg, Jennifer Trail of Garden City and Romayne Ketcha of Nashville ser ved as bridesmaids. The groom's honor attendant was his sister Teresa Wheeler from Ashburn. Michael Wheeler of Ashburn, Jeff Marciano of Centreville, Tom DiBartolo of Burke, Christian Johnson of Quantico, and Scott Day of Richmond were the groomsmen. The flower girls were Jacqueline Moody and Stephanie Guest, cousins of the bride. Katie Lynch, sister of the groom, and John Moody, uncle of the bride, read during the ceremony. Pam Freiheit, aunt of the bride, played the hammer dulcimer. Lee Anne Salade, cousin of the bride, was the guest book attendant. The groom's nieces, Erin Vorgang and Kelly Sinnen and his god son Tim Finley distributed programs. Following the ceremony a reception and dinner were held in the Grand Ballroom of the Hotel Patrick Henry. A special celebration was held to honor the bride's Grandmother, Margaret B. King of Blacksburg, on her 80th birthday.

The bride is the daughter of Eddie and Carol King of Roanoke. She is a graduate of Northside High School and Mary Washington College. She is a first grade teacher in Stafford County. The groom is the son of Dick and Joann Lynch of Clifton. He is a Veteran of the Gulf War and a graduate of Robinson High School and attends George Mason University. He is employed by the Falmouth Institute in Fairfax. The couple will make their home in Fredericksburg.

Mr. and Mrs. Glenn C. Edwards announce the marriage of their daughter, Kimberly Anne Edwards, to Kevin Michael McCarthy on October 26, 1996, in St. Andrew's Catholic Church. The ceremony was performed by Father Thomas Brennan.

The maid of honor was Julie Zollman, friend of bride. Matron of honor was Tara Absher, friend of bride. The bride's gown was an A-line style of ivory silk shantung with pearl beading. She carried a handtied bouquet of champagne roses, calla lilies, freesia and english ivy. The bridesmaids wore black A-line style dresses. They carried handtied bouquets of miniature sunflowers, roses, spray asters and english ivy.

The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn C. Edwards of Martinsville, Virginia. She is a 1989 graduate of Martinsville High School and a 1994 graduate of Radford University. She is employed by Edwards Appraisal Services.

The groom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Philip G. McCarthy, Sr., of Richmond, Virginia. He is a 1989 graduate of Monacan High School in Richmond and a 1994 graduate of Radford University. He is employed by Prudential Insurance.

The newlyweds will live in Roanoke after the wedding trip to Jamaica.

Krissy Mather and Wesley Mullins were married October 19, 1996 in Claytor Lake Gazebo. The groom's uncle, Pastor Arlen Cook, officiated. The reception was held in Radford Inn.

The maid of honor was Jennifer Howard, friend. The matron of honor was Vicki Mather, the mother of the bride. Bridesmaids were April Hamby, Aleta Lawson, and Robyn Moncure, friends. The flowergirl was Temeka Lewis, the groom's niece.

The best man was Kenneth Mullins, the father of the groom. The ushers were Danny Sweet and Greg Cook, cousins of the groom; Patrick Mather, the bride's brother; and Robbie Lewis, the groom's brother-in-law.

The ringbearer was Alexander Levi Mather Mullins, the bride and groom's son. The guestbook was attended by Kim Mat her, the bride's sister.

The bride's gown had a lace bodice with a sweetheart neckline, satin skirt, and lace chapel length train. She carried a bouquet of gardenias, white roses, Queen Anne's lace and ivy.

The bride is the daughter of Richard and Vicki Mather of Springfield, VA. She is a graduate of R.E. Lee High School in Springfield, and is a '94 graduate of Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA, where she received her B.S. She is currently a graduate student in Family & Child Development at Virginia Tech.

The groom is the son of Kenneth and Joyce Mullins of Elliston, VA. He is a graduate of Shawsville High School in Shawsville, VA, and is employed by Brad Ragan, Inc., in Salem, VA.

The newlyweds will live in Elliston, VA, after the wedding trip to Cozumel, Mexico.

The bride is a daughter of Fred and Roymaine Carter of Selma, VA. She is a 1996 graduate of Alleghany High School in Alleghany County and is employed by Douthat State Park.

The groom is the son of Mary Nicely of Clifton Forge and the late David Nicely of Roanoke. He is a 1988 graduate of Alleghany High School in Alleghany County and is employed by Phillips Refrigeration in Covington, VA.

The newlyweds will live in Clifton Forge, VA, after the wedding trip to Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, TN.

Kimberly Dawn Haneline and Brian Eric Parker were married October 12, 1996 in Virginia Heights Baptist Church by Dr. Dan Scott and Rev. Rick Elmore. The reception was held at the church. The maid of honor was Tiffany Haneline, sister of the bride. Matron of honor was Melissa Hall, sister of the bride. Bridesmaids were Karen Franklin, Susan Golgosky and Jennifer Vegso. She is employed by CRMH as an RN. The bridegroom, son of Mrs. Virginia Parker and Mr. Charlie Parker, Jr. of Roanoke, is a graduate of Cave Spring High School and attended Mary Baldwin College. Ringel-Buckland

Michelle Lea Buckland and Michael Ringel were married August 31, 1996 at West Lake Country Club of Smith Mountain Lake, VA. Rev. Barry Franklin and Father Jim Begley officiated the ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Cecil and Linda Buckland of Bluefield, VA. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Kirtner and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Buckland, both of Falls Mills, VA. The groom is the son of William and Jean Ringel of Smith Mountain Lake, VA.

Mark Ringel, twin brother of the groom, served as the best man. Kari Burkett, best friend of the bride, served as the matron of honor. Also two beautiful flowergirls, Chara Ann, the bride's daughter, and Danah Ann Ringel, the groom's niece.

After the honeymoon trip to the Caribbean, the couple will reside in Roanoke, VA.

Whorley-Archer

Joyce Jeanine Archer and Terry Steven Whorley were married September 14, 1996 at the Wedding Chapel. Marion Harris officiated. Kasandra Hurt was maid of honor. Clinton Whorley served as best man. The bride is the daughter of Robert and Anna Secrist of Roanoke. The groom is the son of Clinton and Meriem Whorley of Vinton. After a wedding trip, the couple will reside in Roanoke.
