MAN PINNED UNDER TRUCK WHEELS, DIES

A Franklin County tanker driver was killed Saturday night when he was pinned beneath his truck while working on the rear wheels.

Kyle Bowman, 61, of Ferrum was found two miles west of Virginia 220 on Virginia 1 in Pleasant Hill by his wife, Arlene, about 8:15 p.m., said Claude Webster, Franklin County director of public safety.

Bowman was working around the first set of rear tandem tractor wheels when the tanker, parked on gravel facing downhill on a slight incline, rolled forward about a foot, trapping him, Franklin County Deputy Jeff Woody said.

Bowman's wife had gone to look for him when he was late returning home, Webster said. He had been underneath the truck for about an hour.
