The scenery was spooky, to say the least. From gruesome graveyards to smirking pumpkins, your entries into NewsFun's annual Halloween Art Contest were sometimes creepy, sometimes comical, but always creative.
Participants were asked to submit a drawing of a Halloween scene. Some 500 of you did. The contest was judged by members of The Roanoke Times Art Department.
And the winners are ...
In the kindergarten-first-grade division, Heather Morton, a first-grader at Thaxton Elementary School in Thaxton, takes top honors.
Jessica Boatwright, a second-grader at Back Creek Elementary School in Roanoke County, is the winner in the second-third-grade category.
Fifth-grader Mike Hearn of Fallon Park Elementary School in Roanoke is the winner in the fourth-fifth-grade division.
And taking top honors in the sixth-eighth-grade division is Dustin Radford, an eighth-grader at Floyd County High School.
Honorable mention in the kindergarten-first-grade-division goes to: Carter Norbo, first grade, Crystal Spring Elementary in Roanoke; Nikki Simmons, kindergarten, Monterey Elementary in Roanoke; and Brittany Frost, first grade, Penn Forest Elementary in Roanoke County.
Honorable mention in the second-third-grade category: Katherine Jetton, second grade, Penn Forest Elementary; Sarah McQuail, second grade, Gilbert Linkous Elementary in Blacksburg; Kristin Cooley, second grade, Back Creek Elementary; John Grubb, third grade, Fallon Park Elementary; Phillip Reynolds, third grade, Herman L. Horn Elementary in Vinton; Shaun Downey, third grade, Prices Fork Elementary in Christiansburg; and Daniel Wyatt, third grade, Beeks Elementary in Blacksburg.
