BLANEY, Stanley McCall, 65, of Roanoke, passed away in a local hospital on Saturday, October 26, 1996. A native of Roanoke, he was the son of the late Leo Blaney and Lula Archer Blaney Bratton. He was educated in Roanoke City Schools. After many years of working as manager for Lincoln Terrace and Lansdowne Apartments, he took disability retirement from the Roanoke Redevelopment and Housing Authority. He was active with the Boy Scout program, working with scout troops for many years. Survivors include his devoted wife, Mrs. Frances Price Blaney; three daughters, Dr. Beverly Lynn Blaney of Detroit, Mich., Ms. Tracy Blaney and Mary E. Blaney, Esquire, of Roanoke; two sisters, Mrs. Frances (Robert) Brown and Ms. Charlene Bratton of Roanoke; one brother, Hunter Blaney of Bronx, N.Y.; his stepfather, V. Maceo Bratton of Roanoke; a foster brother, Jeffrey Jones of Mechanicsville; sisters-in-law, Vivian (Donald) Pierce, Helene (Steve) Seymour and Yvonne (Rev. BRAINARD, Lawrence Robert, 88, of Radford, passed away Saturday, October 26, 1996, at his home. He was a graduate of the University of Chicago, served as an officer in the U.S. Navy in the Atlantic Theater in World War II, was a high school chemistry teacher, and a retired accountant. He is survived by his wife, Jane B. Brainard of Radford; three sons, Robert Blair Brainard of Raleigh, N.C., Blair Alan Brainard of Radford, and Lawrence John Brainard of New York, N.Y.; one daughter, Mrs. Anne DeMartini of Modesto, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Florence Cockrell of Dallas, Texas, and Mrs. Winifred Deckle of San Antonio, Texas; nine grandchildren. JAMISON, STS1 (SS) Petty Officer Lyle Kenneth, 33, of Bremerton, Wash. Naval Base, formerly of Route 1, Henry, died Saturday, October 26, 1996 as a result of injuries received in a car accident in Woodford County, Ky. Jamison was born July 22, 1963 in Philadelphia, Pa. to STCS (SS) Jim Jamison, USN, Retired, (1953-1973) and Judy Martin Jamison of Henry. Petty Officer Lyle Jamison enlisted in the Navy in September, 1981 and after completion of initial training, he was assigned for duty in the Submarine Service on board the USS HENRY CLAY, where he served from January 1982 through February 1986. He was subsequently assigned to the USS RAY from July 1987 through October 1996. His sole shore assignment was as an Instructor at the Navy Submarine Training Center in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Upon completion of that assignment, he was assigned back to sea on board the USS SUNFISH, where he served from November 1994 to October 1996 as a Sonar Technician. During his Naval career, Petty Officer Jamison earned various awards for his exemplary service. These awards include 2 Navy Achievements medals, the Navy Expeditionary Medal, three Good Conduct medals, and the National Defense Service Medal. Jamison was a graduate of Franklin County High School and attended extensive electronic training for his current military specialty. He was of the Presbyterian faith. Surviving in addition to his parents, one daughter, Kymberly Leigh Jamison of Ferrum; two brothers, Craig Jamison and Ed Jamison of Henry; and his paternal gr andmother, Ella Jamison of Rocky Mount. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 2 p.m. at the Piedmont Presbyterian Church in Callaway. Dr. C. Richard Slider, II and the Rev. Eugene Lawson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Helms family cemetery, with full military rights being provided by the Honor Guard from the Naval Station in Norfolk. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 at Collins Funeral Services Chapel in Bassett. Memorials may be made to the Fork Mountain Fire and Rescue Squad.
KORNEGAY, Chellie Vann, 89, of Rocky Mount, died Sunday, October 27, 1996. Surviving are her husband, Robert H. Kornegay Sr. of Rocky Mount; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert Jr. and Elaine Kornegay of Rocky Mount; one grandson, Robert H. Kornegay III of Rocky Mount. Several nieces and nephews also survive. LEAH, Ethel E., 53, of Salem, passed away Monday, October 28, 1996, after a lengthy illness. She was a faithful member of Ghent Grace Brethren Church, where she served as clerk of the congregation for many years. She was the retired voter registrar for Roanoke County for 26 years. She is survived by her mother, Alice R. Leah; brothers and sister-in-law, Gary N. and Melody Leah and David M. Leah; sister and brother-in-law, Linda L. and John M. Wickstrom; foster brothers, sisters and their spouses, Libby and Earl E. Bowman, Jr., Janie and Ronnie Sowder, Richard and Sharon Cooper, Leslie and Margaret Cooper, Nancy and Jack Atkinson; nieces, nephews and spouses, Ashley Wickstrom, Sebri Leah, Autumn Leah, Brittany Leah, Sandra and Wayne Guffey, Ryan Wickstrom, Kevin and Regina Bowman, Donna and Bryan Jamison, Debra and Clifford Bowman, Amanda Bowman. McKee, Carlton Lee , 70, of Hardy was called home to heaven to be with Christ Jesus the Lord, Sunday, October 27, 1996. He was preceded in death by his mother, Viola McKee and step-son Clifford (Moe) Hampton. He is survived by his wife Lois Marie (Updike) McKee, daughter Sharon Leigh Jones and two sons Randy Carlton and Marty David McKee all of the Hardy area. There are several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. McKee served in the U.S. Navy during World World II in the Euporpean Theatre of Operations as a signal man on a Landing Craft Infantry (LCI) in the Mediterranean. He was employed by American Viscoe and retired as a welder from the car shops of Norfolk and Southern. Mr. McKee served on the Bedford County Board of Supervisors, always striving to straighten out Hardy Rd. He was a active lifetime member of the Gravel Hill Baptist Church. A memorial service will be conducted by Pastor Clay Peters and Pastor Burrell Baker at the Lotz Funeral Home in Vinton on Wednesday, October 30, 1996 at 12 noon. O'BRIEN, John T. Sr., 82, of Martinsburg, W.Va., died Sunday, October 27, 1996, in the Will iamsport Nursing Home, Williamsport, Md. Born January 10, 1914 in Luke, Md., he was the son of the late Patrick Joseph O'Brien Sr. and Sarah McMillan O'Brien. He was an x-ray technician, retired from the VA Medical Center, was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and a member of Martinsburg Lodge #120, Loyal Order of Moose. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, John T. O'Brien Jr. and Carol Bartles O'Brien, Martinsburg, W.Va.; a daughter and son-in-law, Catherine ``Kay'' Hancock and Frank P. Hancock III, Roanoke; two grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary Sullivan, Hagerstown, Md., Sally Biggs, Cumberland, Md. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Kathryn Peters O'Brien. VEST, Thomas Thurman, (``Tom''), 89, of Floyd County, a resident of Check, died Saturday, October 26, 1996, at South Roanoke Nursing Home, where he had been a resident since March 11, 1996. He was born February 25, 1907 in Floyd County, where he had lived all his life. He was a son of Willie F. Vest and Tabatha Jane Rierson Vest, and was a member of the Red Oak Grove Church of the Brethren. He had farmed all his life, being a dairy farmer for many years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gaye Bertha Radford on January 27, 1985; as well as by two brothers; and three sisters. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary V. and William E.
