BENEFIT CONCERT SATURDAY FOR NEW RIVER WOMAN

The University Park Church Mass Choir of Charlotte, N.C., will perform a benefit concert at 4 p.m. Saturday at Pulaski County High School for Adrianne Claytor, a 1984 graduate of that school and member of New River's First Missionary Baptist Church.

Claytor was diagnosed with Hodgkin's disease two weeks after she received her master's degree in psychology from the University of Tennessee in December 1995. The disease was too advanced to be cured by the traditional methods of radiation treatments and chemotherapy.

She had held part-time jobs to pay for her education but, since her illness, she has not been able to work. Her chemotherapy and the disease itself has kept her from finding employment.

Doctors in Knoxville, Tenn., where Claytor lives, have said a bone-marrow or stem-cell transplant might cure the disease, said Hazel Taylor, one of the First Missionary church members helping with fund-raising activities on Claytor's behalf. Claytor's insurance carrier has declined to pay for either transplant treatment, deeming them experimental and not covered by her policy.

The benefit in the school's Little Theater will help with her financial struggles. Admission is free, but donations of any amount will be accepted. Donations can also be sent to the Adrianne Claytor Fund, care of First National Bank of Christiansburg, P.O. Box 812, Radford, Va. 24141. Further information is also available by calling Taylor at 639-1081 or Melissa Twine at 639-1845.
