A Bedford man who sodomized and sexually molested two 11-year-old boys wanted to get his court case over with so quickly that he waived all his rights and condensed the year-long process of hearings, indictments and a trial into a single day.
"We literally took him out of the J&D court and took him upstairs to the Circuit Court," said Commonwealth's Attorney Randy Krantz.
Charles Wayne Bartleson, 33, of Bedford, pleaded guilty Tuesday to two felony counts of sodomy for each victim, and one felony count of aggravated sexual battery. Bedford Circuit Judge William Sweeney sentenced him to 26 years in prison, the maximum recommended sentence under state guidelines.
Bartleson was scheduled for a preliminary hearing Tuesday in Bedford County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court for six counts of sodomy and five counts of aggravated sexual battery against the minors.
Bartleson was arrested after two boys told police that Bartleson had molested them. Bartleson admitted that he sexually molested the two in Bedford.
