BLOOD NEEDS URGENT, RED CROSS SAYS

In response to a recent stabbing victim who required 46 units of blood, the American Red Cross has issued an emergency request for blood in the New River Valley.

The Red Cross needs O-positive, O-negative, and A-negative blood, as well as other types.

Donors may give from noon to 6 p.m. Friday at the Christiansburg Moose Lodge next to the Farmhouse restaurant. They may also give at the New River Valley Donor Center on Jackson Street in downtown Blacksburg during its regular hours - from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fridays, and from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesdays.

Other upcoming blood drives include: at Industrial Drive and Inland Motor in Radford from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday.; at the Hoechst-Celanese Corp.'s Celco Plant in Giles County from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 8; and at Virginia Tech from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 12-14 in Squires Student Center.
