Brandy Allen scored nine of her 13 points in the first quarter as William Byrd took over second place in the Blue Ridge District with a 59-41 victory over visiting Blacksburg on Tuesday night.
The Terriers broke a second-place tie with Northside, a 49-38 loser Tuesday to district leader Lord Botetourt.
Andrea Gay scored six of her 12 points off steals in the third quarter as the Terriers (16-3 overall, 11-2 district) went to a full-court press in the third quarter and caused several turnovers.
Andrea Feret scored 12 points and Karly Geller 11 to lead the Indians (5-15, 2-11).
Salem 45, Rockbridge County 35: The Spartans (10-9, 5-8) took control early in a Blue Ridge District victory over the Wildcats in Lexington.
Sarah Palmer had seven of her game-high 20 points in the first quarter as Salem went up 14-4.
Rockbridge County (1-18, 1-13) got eight points each from April Staton and Kate Ides, and Carmen Hambrick grabbed 10 rebounds.
James River 45, Highland 29: Nakia Burrell scored 13 points to lead the Knights (8-12, 6-4) past the Rams (2-13, 0-9) in a Pioneer District game in Buchanan.
Julie Firebaugh added 11 points for James River, which took advantage of a rash of Highland turnovers to take a 22-11 halftime lead.
Tera Hiner led the Rams with 12 points on four 3-pointers.
Parry McCluer 70, Craig County 16: The Fighting Blues pitched a shutout in the first half, outscoring the Rockets 36-0 en route to a Pioneer District rout in Buena Vista.
Lindsey Coleman led Parry McCluer (13-6, 8-1) with 15 points. Craig County is 2-17, 2-8.
