BARRETT, Bobby Foster, 87, of Roanoke, passed away on Saturday, October 26, 1996, in a local hospital. She was a native of Salem, daughter of the late Leroy Foster and Mary Branum. She was educated in Roanoke City Public Schools, and later moved to New York City during World War II. While there, she was a member of Holiness Temple Church. After returning to Roanoke, she became a member of Garden of Prayer C.O.G.I.C., No. 7. Her hobbies included crocheting, writing poetry and sewing. Her survivors include one sister, Annabelle Scott, and a niece, Annette (Joel) Utterback, all of Roanoke; four nephews, Walter C. (Debra) Scott of Temple Hills, Md., Andrew (Colleen) Scott and Mark (Cheryle) Scott of Roanoke and Tim Scott of McLean; three devoted friends, Ann Wingo of Salem, and Esther McCullough and Ruby Hilton of Roanoke; two stepdaughters, Alma McGee and Sarah Bratton, and one foster son, Dennis Anderson. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Friday, November 1, 1996, at Garden of Prayer C.O.G.I.C., No. 7, with Dr. Shadrach Brown Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Williams Memorial Park. Friends may call at Serenity Funeral Home from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, October 31. The body will be taken to the church at 10 a.m. Friday. BROWN, Arthur, Jr., of Roanoke, passed away, Sunday, October 27, 1996. Survivors include one brother and sister-in-law, Alvin and Eugenia Brown, South Charleston, W. Va.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services will be held Thursday, 2 p.m. Hamlar Curtis Chapel with the Rev. William Lee officiating. BURNETTE, Richard Turner Sr., 59, of Bedford, passed away Tuesday, October 29, 1996, in the Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born July 21, 1937 in Bedford County, a son of the late William Homer Burnette and Bertha Turner Burnette. He was a retired employee of Bedford Weaving, a farmer, and a member of the Mt. Olivet Southern Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Clara Booth Burnette; a daughter and son-in-law, Jane B. and Phillip Giles, Thaxton; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Richard T. and Theresa Burnette, Littlestown, Pa., William Bryson Burnette, Bedford; two sisters, Eunice B. Bolling, Bedford, Dorothy B. Hannabass, Goodview; three brothers, W. H. (Billy) Burnette, J. T. Burnette, both of Bedford, Rucker Burnette, Red Oak, N.C.; a grandson, Hunter Giles, Thaxton. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, October 31, 1996, at 2 p.m. from the Mt. Olivet Southern Baptist Church by the Rev. Mike Jones. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Updike Funeral Home, Bedford, and requests that those wishing to make memorials consider the Mt. CAMPBELL, Mary Douglas Leech, (``Doug""), 69, of Richmond, formerly of Natural Bridge, Va., died Monday, October 28,1996 in the Medical College of Virginia Hospital. Mrs. Campbell was born April 20, 1927 in Rockbridge County, a daughter of the late Emmett Russell Leech and Mabel Stoner Leech. She was a member and a choir member of the Bethany United Methodist Church in Hampton, Va. She was also a member of the Volksmarch and the widow of William Francis Campbell, Sr. Surviving are two sons and one daughter-in-law, William F. and Sherion P. Campbell, Jr., Richmond, Malcolm Wayne Campbell, Richmond; three sisters, Edna Leech Clarke, Natural Bridge Station, Gale Leech Wirt, Waynesboro, Jean Leech Loving, Lynchburg; three grandchildren, Christopher Wayne Campbell, Renee Frances Campbell and Candice Campbell. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, November 1, 1996, at Harrison Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Fred Arndt and the Rev. Edward Rigg officiating. Burial will follow in the Glasgow Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Harrison Funeral Home, Lexington, Va.

COVEY, David Garland, 84, of Route 1, (Mt. View Community) Dublin, and 2505 Rutrough Road, S.E., Roanoke, passed away Monday, October 28, 1996, in the Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Roanoke. He was born February 18, 1912 in Pulaski County. He was the son of the late David Sperry Covey and Bessie Farmer Covey. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Margie Kathleen Bivins Covey; and a brother, Cula Edward Covey. He was retired from the Appalachian Electric Power Co. with approximately 35 years of service. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Judy Covey Hodge and Lynn Hodge, Roanoke; two granddaughters, Amy Lynne Hodge and April Lea Hodge, Roanoke; three sisters, Edna Elizabeth Phillips, Dublin, Mary Kathleen Rutherford, Fairlawn, Virginia Estelle Atkins, Dublin. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 3 p.m., at the Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski, with the Rev. Charles ``Al'' Echols officiating. Entombment will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens Mausoleum, Dublin. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Bower Funeral Chapel, 1631 Bob White Blvd., Pulaski. Dickerson, Christiansburg; his wife, Brenda Mustard Dickerson; stepson and family, Stacey, Trina; special granddaughter, Rach el Smith, all of Pearisburg; sisters, Betty Dickerson, Pat Ballou, Christiansburg; brother, Brownie Dickerson, Christiansburg; half brothers, Dewey Dickerson, Christiansburg, Bobby Dickerson, Radford; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Buford and Mary Mustard; special sister-in-law, Marilyn Mustard, all of Pearisburg; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and many special friends. FRYE, Eva Crockett, 81, of Cripple Creek, passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 29, 1996, at her residence. She is survived by a brother and a special sister-in-law, Howard F. and Ethel Crockett of Rural Retreat; one sister, Beulah Youngblood, Fries. Several nieces and nephews, and many friends also survive. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Crockett's Chapel United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Joe Carrico, with interment to foll ow in the Crockett Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Gillman Funeral Chapel. GILLISPIE, Ronald Leonard Sr., (``Ronnie''), 56, of Ferrum, died M onday, October 28, 1996. Born February 9, 1940, he was preceded in death by his father, Euell B. Gillispie. Surviving are three sons and two daughters-in-law, Ronnie L. Jr. and Karen R. Gillispie of Ferrum, James D. and Missy Gillispie of Christiansburg, Andrew Gillispie of Santa Barbara, Calif.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan E. and David Stout Jr. of Rocky Mount, Cindy G. and Brian G. Young of Ferrum; his mother, Ida Boyd Gillispie of Ferrum; two sisters Barbara Boyd and Betty Minton, both of Ferrum; one brother, Donald Lee Gillispie of Ferrum; ex-wife, Judy R. Gillispie of Ferrum; special niece, Peggy Sue Boston of Ferrum; five grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, October 31, 1996, at Lynch Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Abe (Bucky) Handy Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Ingram Family Cemetery, Ferrum. GOSNELL, Fredrick E., 68, of Granville, Ohio, died Sunday, October 20, 1996. He was the nephew of Mrs. Mildred Gills Wood of Bedford. Graveside services were Thursday, October 24, 1996 by The American Legion.

HARPER, Myrtle Shelton, 82, of Gretna, died Tuesday, October 29,1996. Funeral 11 a.m. Thursday at Gretna Pentecostal Holiness Church. Arrangements by Colbert-Moran Funeral Home.

JOHNSON, Dorothy Glass Gentry, 88, of Roanoke and Blacksburg, died Tuesday, October 29, 1996. She was born October 19, 1908, in Roanoke, and was baptized at St. Andrew's Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her first husband of 34 years, Fred Bingham Gentry, a founding partner in Gentry, Locke, Rakes & Moore, Attorneys at Law. Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Roanoke Assembly, the Women's Democratic Club, the William Fleming Chapter D.A.R. and the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Mrs. Johnson was also a member of St. Francis Circle at St. Andrew's Church. In recent years, she had attended St. Mary's Catholic Church in Blacksburg. She was a graduate of Jefferson High School and Virginia College. Surviving are her husband, Adger Smythe Johnson of Blacksburg; daughters and son-in-law, Adrienne Gentry and Fred Bullington, and Alice Gentry Barnette of Roanoke; a son and daughter-in-law, Fred B. Jr. and Susan Hathaway Gentry of Virginia Beach; three grandchildren and spouses, Ellen Bullington Furlough and husband George Majda of Ohio, Betsy Bullington Hale and husband Kermit Hale of Roanoke, David Bingham and Carolyn Fulcher Bullington of Roanoke; five great-grandchildren, Samuel Lucas Hale, Elizabeth Linfield Hale, Andrew Bingham Majda, David Frederick Bullington and William Merritt Bullington; three nieces, and one nephew. Services will be at St. Andrew's Catholic Church at 12 noon Thursday, October 31, 1996. The Rev. Randy Rule will officiate. Interment will follow in Evergreen Burial Park. Friends may call at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.

KING, Mary Ida, of Roanoke went to be with the Lord on Monday, October 28, 1996. She was the widow of Daniel E. King. Mrs. King was the retired manager of the Cafeteria at Eagle Rock Elementary School. She was a member of Eagle Rock United Methodist Church. Surviving are a son a nd daughter-in-law, Ernie and Julie King of Selah, Wash.; granddaughter, Virginia King; grandsons, Jason and Paul King; one brother, Ted Lee of Check; and a number of nieces and nephews including Nellie Board, Danny Board, Sydney McClanahan, and Laverne Tilley. Funeral services will be held at Oakey's South Chapel, 1 p.m. Thursday with the Reverend Robert N. Hoskins, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Eagle Rock United Methodist Church. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Oakey's South Chapel.
