COUGARS PIEDMONT TITLISTS

Patrick County hit four free throws in the final minute-and-a-half to wrap up the Piedmont District regular-season title with a 40-36 victory over Bassett on Wednesday night in Stuart.

The Cougars (18-3 overall, 8-2 district) trailed 32-29 before going on a 7-0 run. The Bengals (16-5, 6-4) rallied to tie before Alison Brammer hit two free throws and Holly Weber and Geneva Hylton one apiece to seal the victory

Weber scored 17 points to lead Patrick County.

Heather Miller scored 22 for Bassett.

In other games:

Fieldale-Collinsville 66, Laurel Park 61: Jennifer Floyd scored 23 points as the Cavaliers scored their first Piedmont District victory of the season by defeating the Lancers in Collinsville.

Forward Carrie Quinlan had 17 points and 10 rebounds for Fieldale-Collinsville (6-15, 1-9). Tiffany Lynch led Laurel Park (12-8, 6-4) with 24 points.

Martinsville 53, Magna Vista 43: Martinsville held Magna Vista to just one field goal in the opening quarter, grabbing a 17-3 lead en route to the Piedmont District victory in Martinsville. With the victory and Laurel Park's overtime loss to Fieldale-Collinsville, Martinsville finished the regular season in second place, one game behind Patrick County.

Martinsville's Tiffany Watkins connected on 10 of 13 shots for a season-high 22 points in the victory. Jamie Farrington tossed in 17 for the Bulldogs (13-7, 7-3). Lakesha Jones led the Warriors (7-12, 2-8) with 12 points.

Floyd County 66, Radford 44: The Buffaloes overcame a slow start and an inspired effort by the Bobcats on senior night and left Radford with the Three Rivers District win.

The win sets up a playoff between Floyd County (19-2, 9-1) and Glenvar at Auburn High School in Riner on Monday at 7p.m.

Charlee Taylor scored 14 of her 22 points in the first half to lead Radford (10-11, 3-7)

Julie Sowers scored 17 of her 24 points in the second half for the Buffaloes. Amy Vest added 13 points and Sara Conner scored all 10 of hers in the third quarter for Floyd County.

Glenvar 65, Giles 32: Erika Hale scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and Bonnie Willet added 18 points as the Highlanders rolled past the Spartans in a Three Rivers District game in Pearisburg.

Glenvar (16-4, 9-1) jumped out to a 14-6 first-quarter lead and rolled to victory.

Kristen White scored 12 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for Giles (5-14, 0-9).

Tuesday's games

Galax 46, Narrows 33: Erin Kyle had 15 points and 15 rebounds and Tiffany Williams added 14 points as the Maroon Tide (14-6, 10-2) defeated the Green Wave (15-5, 10-2) in Galax to gain a tie with Narrows atop the Mountain Empire District standings.

Suzanne Webb led Narrows with 11 points. The two teams will meet again at 7p.m. Saturday at Fort Chiswell to decide the regular-season district championship.

Jefferson Forest 60, Liberty 32: Melinda Minnick scored 15 points and Krystal Reeves added 13 as the Cavaliers (15-9, 9-2) routed the Minettes (4-16, 3-8) in a Seminole District game in Bedford.

Selena Byars and Catherine Saunders had nine points apiece to lead the Minettes.
