Roanoke County Administrator Elmer Hodge and his wife, Sue, are planning to move to East County next spring.
The Hodges are building a home in the Wolf Creek subdivision, which is near the Blue Ridge Parkway off Mountain View Road. Elmer Hodge said the house is being designed as a single-level, handicap-accessible structure for Sue.
"The only reason we've chosen to build is we've just learned she has muscular dystrophy," he said recently.
The couple's home in Penn Forest is a two-story structure, he noted.
Wolf Creek is Roanoke County's first planned residential development. The developer, Roanoke insurance broker Steve Musselwhite, plans to construct 101 homes in five neighborhood clusters. The project was designed by Williamsburg architect Carlton Abbott, son of the parkway's original designer, and David Hill of Hill Studio in Roanoke.
Hodge said he and his wife, both graduates of The College of William and Mary, like the Williamsburg designs being used in the new subdivision.
