ARMY PVT. PHILLIP J. BLANKENSHIP, son of Otey and Terri Blankenship of New Castle, recently graduated from basic training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C.
SECOND LT. ROBERT A. SHELTON, son of Robert L. and Claudeen R. Shelton of Roanoke, has graduated from the Air Force flight screening program at Randolph Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
Shelton is a 1991 graduate of Cave Spring High School and a 1996 graduate of Virginia Tech.
PVT. DAVID W. ATKINSON, son of Wendell G. and Donna B. Atkinson of Roanoke, recently completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C.
Atkinson is a 1995 graduate of William Fleming High School.
ARMY RESERVE PVT. TIMOTHY R. GARLAND, son of Thomas H. and Betty H. Garland of Roanoke, recently graduated from basic military training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.
PVT. JESSE L. CHISOM, son of Bonnie S. and Jesse L. Chisom Sr. of Roanoke, recently completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C.
Chisom is a 1995 graduate of William Fleming High School.
ARMY RESERVE PVT. ANGELA D. SIX, daughter of Margaret L. Six of Roanoke and Walter J. Six, recently graduated from basic military training at Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Mo.
Six is a 1996 graudate of William Fleming High School.
CHARLES J. BEIRNE, son of John and Tirzah Beirne of Roanoke, has been awarded an Army ROTC scholarship to attend Virginia Military Institute for two years. This merit scholarship covers tuition, fees, books and $1,500 spending money.
Beirne is a 1994 graduate of William Byrd High School.
