Committee invites beautification help
The Visual Enhancement Committee is a busy group of volunteers working to make Christiansburg a more beautiful hometown for its citizens.
Members of the committee are concerned that word has not gotten out to everyone that a special project is in progress and needs funding to continue. The project is a gold-star garden atop the embankment along U.S. 460 on the edge of the Christiansburg High School campus.
This project is being financed by individual donations and is in honor of Evans King, a prominent retired educator in the area. It is the desire of the Enhancement Committee that every person in Christiansburg and nearby areas have an opportunity to donate to the garden. This may be done by making a deposit to the committee at First National Bank in care of Peggy Long.

Retirement trust fund at issue on Tuesday
I request and urge each voter on Tuesday to support making the Virginia Retirement System a separate and independent retirement trust fund by voting yes on the proposed constitutional amendment.
This constitutional amendment requires the investment and administration of retirement funds solely in the interest of its members and beneficiaries. This amendment prohibits raiding of these employee pension funds.
It subjects the investment of employee pension trusts funds to restrictions, terms, and conditions prescribed by the Virginia General Assembly.
The amendment will not raise taxes today or tomorrow and will not expand or provide benefits for public employees or retirees.
