BUSHNELL, Paul E., 63, of Vinton, went to be with the Lord, Friday, November 1, 1996 after a lengthy illness. Mr. Bushnell was retired from Lance, Incorporated. He attended the First Church of the Nazarene. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paulina (Pansy) and Evan (Richard) Bushnell, brothers, Leo, James, and Carl Bushnell, sister, Clara Robertson. He is survived by his wife, Betty L. Bushnell; sons and daughters-in-law, Gary E. and Sherrie Bushnell, Vinton, Robert W. and Cynthia Bushnell, Charlotte, N.C., Dean W. and Brenda Bushnell, Roanoke; sisters, Becky Jean Kingery and husband, Frank, Viola Holston, Frances Hutchinson, Margaret Hoal and husband, Lawrence; brother, Robert Bushnell, all of Roanoke; brother, Donald Bushnell and wife, Myrna, Austin, Texas; sister-in-law, Oretha (Jenny) Bushnell, Roanoke; five grandchildren, Stephanie, Lauren, Courtney, Brandon and Ashley Bushnell; In-laws and adopted father, Mr. & Mrs. Joe Goode; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 4, 1996 at 2 p.m. from the Lotz Vinton Chapel with the Rev. Earl Robertson and the Rev. L. E. Humrich officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Lotz Vinton Chapel. CHITTUM, Sylvester W., (``Squenchy""), 94, of Buena Vista, died Friday, November 1, 1996, at his residence. Born on March 2, 1902, in Rockbridge County, he was the son of the late Andrew Jackson and Sarah Hostetter Chittum. He was self-employed as an auto mechanic. He is survived by two daughters, Mary Wright of Buena Vista, and Betty Campbell and husband Lee of Moneta; son, Ralph Chittum and wife Marjory of Buena Vista; eight grandchildren; 12 great-g randchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, November 4, 1996, from the graveside in Green Hill Cemetery, with Pastor Joseph (``Butch"") Grow officiating. DAUGHTRY, Lynn Alvis, 55, of Chatham Heights Rd., Martinsville, died at home on Thursday, October 31, 1996. Mrs. Daughtry was born June 10, 1941 in Springfield, Ill., to her birth father Stanley Layman and Mary Layman. Her adopted father was Dr. Walter P. Alvis, all of which preceded her in death. She was a member of Pocahontas Bassett Baptist Church. She attended Stephens College of Columbia Missouri; and she was formerly active with the Bassett High School Band Boosters. She was employed by Ameristaff as an office worker. Surviving are; husband, Harry L. Daughtry of Martinsville; two daughters, Lisa D. Knott of Martinsville and Jennifer D. Patterson of Mableton, Ga; one son CPL. Christopher L. Daughtry USMC, Camp Pendleton Calif.; one sister Joyce Grant of Wilmington N.C.; two aunts Ruth Lawther of Pennsylvania; Bertha Didier of Centralia, Ill.; one uncle Roy Martin of Kansas City Missouri; one sister in-law, Mrs. F. Stephen (Martha) Glass of Cary, N.C. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Collins Funeral Services Chapel in Bassett with the Rev. Dale Ashley officiating. GILLESPIE, Edward Lee, Sr., 70, of Roanoke passed away Thursday, October 31, 1996. Survivors include four sons, Edward Lee Gillespie Jr., Bobbie P. Gillespie, Larry M. Gillespie, Timothy E. HARRIS, Mary F. 82, of Salem, passed away Thursday, October 31,1996. Survivors include one son, Theodore (Pam) V. HUBBLE, Louise Sutton, 78, of Radford, died Friday, November 1, 1996, in a Fredericksburg hospital. She was the widow of M. R. (``Mutt"") Hubble. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Lou and Gene Pitzer of Fredericksburg; two brothers, Pierce (``Pee Wee"") Sutton of Berkley Springs, W.Va., and James E. (``Buddy"") Sutton of Radford; a sister, Pauline S. HUFF, Harold Dean, 56, of Pilot, died Friday, November 1, 1996, at his home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Treva Huff and one brother, Paul Huff. Surviving are his fiancee, Elva Scaggs, Riner; a son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Rhonda Huff, Pilot; a special grandson, Justin Huff; one daughter, Tracy Huff, Pilot; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Dr. Wallace L. and Imogene Huff, Blacksburg, Rodney and Crystal Huff, Pilot; several nieces and nephews, as well as a host of friends. HURT, David Bruce, 60, of Roanoke, died Wednesday, October 30, 1996, as the result of a fire at his home. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. He retired from the Army on May 1, 1975, with over 20 years of service. Surviving are daughters, Cheryl Yvonne Hurt of Chestertown, Md., and Karen Leigh Dionisio of Fairfax; a brother, Andrew Gus Hurt Jr. of Vinton, and three grandchildren. Memorial services will be conducted from Oakey's Vinton Chapel at 4 p.m. Monday, November 4, 1996, with Pastor Chester Lykins officiating. JOHNSON, Eula Mae Palmer 74, of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, October 30, 1996. Funeral services will be Monday, November 4, 1996 at 2 p.m. at the Hamlar-Curtis Chapel. The Rev. LYNN, Clyde Wetzel, Sr., of Christiansburg, passed away Friday evening, November 1, 1996 at Radford Community Hospital. He was 60. Local race fans may remember him as #20. He drove his red Ford stock car at NASCAR events around the country in the '60's, earning fourth place in the Grand National points standings in 1968. Fans and fellow race car drivers knew him as a man of humor and goodwill. He was preceded in death by his parents, Blanche and Hansford Lynn and is survived by his wife, Lisa M. Lynn; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Clyde W. Lynn, Jr. and Teresa, Christiansburg, Connie Mack Lynn, Keen Mountain, Va. and Timothy Brumfield, Christiansburg; two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Rick Banks, Karyn and Ronnie Smith, all of Christiansburg; a brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Mary Lynn, Dublin; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy and Bobby Hawley, Christiansburg, Ruby and Richard Cales of Florida; four grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren; a special friend, Brenda Sue Lester, Christiansburg. The funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday at the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Joe McCoy, with burial in Sunrise Burial Park, Radford. MEREDITH, Myrtle Hughett, 84, of 11 2nd Street, SW, Pulaski, died Saturday, December 30, 1995 in the St. Vincent DePaul Nursing Center, Frostburg, Md. She was born in Pulaski County on June 9, 1911, and was the daughter of the late Arthur Hughett and Nancy Anderson Hughett. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Pulaski, and was a retired department manager of Roses, Inc., Pulaski. She was preceded in death by her husband, Grayson William Meredith Sr. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Velma Sue and Richard Ottmar, Cumberland, Md.; son and daughter-in-law, G. W. and Margaret Meredith Jr., Bowie, Md.; one sister, Elsie Caudill, Meadowview; three brothers, Hensel Hughett, Thaxton, Arvie Hughett, Pulaski, Edgar Hughett, Pulaski, four grandchildren, Karl Ottmar, Cumberland, Md., Lise Ottmar, Cumberland, Md., Heather Hawbecker, Bowie, Md., Michael Meredith, Bowie, Md. PHILLIPS, Herman Lilburn, 80, of Radford, passed away Friday, November 1, 1996 at Heritage Hall Nursing Facility in Blacksburg. He was a retired employee of the St. Albans Hospital in Radford and was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in WWII with the 176 Military Police Company. Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Lancaster Phillips; two sons and daughter-in-law, ShermanLilburn and Ester F. Phillips of Lakeville, Minn. and Thomas Daniel Phillips of Wilmington, N.C.; two grandchildren, Katherine and Michael Phillips of Lakeville, Minn.; three sisters,Mrs. Clifton (Frances P.) Kirby of Pulaski, Mrs. Jack (Helen P.) Bobinger of Bladensburg, Md. and Mrs. Juanita P. Muller of Richmond; special aunt, Mrs. Sadie P. Covey of Pulaski.
