Gov. George Allen appointed lawyer Junius Fulton III to a Norfolk Circuit Court judgeship to replace Luther Edmonds, who resigned in September while he was under investigation.
Fulton, 38, is an attorney with the Fulton and Kee law firm and a member of the Norfolk School Board. He is a former assistant commonwealth's attorney in Norfolk. His interim appointment took effect Monday but will have to be confirmed by the General Assembly this winter.
Allen said at a news conference Monday that Fulton brings a special perspective to the court because his father was murdered.
Fulton said his father was slain by his business partner about 30 years ago. The business partner was convicted of voluntary manslaughter and served about 18 months in prison, Fulton said.
``I was a victim,'' he said.
