2 VISITORS TO HOME SHOT, WOUNDED AS THEY SLEEP POLICE LATER CHARGE ROANOKE MAN, 22

A man and a woman were shot Tuesday while asleep at an East Roanoke County home. Police arrested a 22-year-old Roanoke man several hours later and charged him in connection with one of the shootings.

Police gave this account:

About 9:30 a.m., an armed man walked into a house at 3972 Carson Road through an unlocked door.

Chasity Elliott, 22, and Junior Glass, 29, were visiting friends at the house and were asleep in an upstairs bedroom. The man shot the couple in the lower area of their bodies with a small-caliber handgun.

Elliott, who was shot several times, and Glass were taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Their injuries were not life-threatening, police said.

An acquaintance of one of the victims led police to Troy Lee Alexander, who was arrested in Roanoke and charged with malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the shooting of Elliott. County Police Capt. Ray Lavinder said additional charges are pending.

Police are not sure why the attack occurred.

Late Tuesday, Alexander was being held in Roanoke County-Salem Jail without bond.
