DODSON, Claude B., Lt. Col., USAF (Ret.),76, of Sumter, S.C., died Monday, November 4, 1996. Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Chapel of Crawford Funeral Home. Interment with full military honors will be at 2 p.m. Friday, November 8, 1996, in Culpeper National Cemetery, Culpeper, Va. The family will receive friends following the service Wednesday at Crawford Funeral Home until 5 p.m. Born in Culpeper, Va., he was a son of the late John William and Pearl Amiss Pullin Dodson. He was a veteran pilot, having served in World War II, and the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was a member of the Air Force Association, Santee-Wateree Chapter, Retired Officers' Association, William R. Singleton-Hope-Lebanon Lodge #7, AFM, Washington, D.C., and a member of Culpeper United Methodist Church, Culpeper, Va. Surviving are daughters, Martha Murray of Moneta, Va., and Margaret Fudger of Sumter, S.C.; a son, Claude B. Dodson Jr. of Dunwoody, Ga; a sister, Edna Pryse of Staunton, Va., and six grandchildren. GILMORE, Frank Junior, of Christiansburg, died Sunday, November 3, 1996 in a Roanoke hospital. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday from the Richardson-Horne Chapel, conducted by Rev. GROSS, Frank James, 68, of Roanoke, passed away Monday, November 4, 1996. He was retired from the City of Roanoke. He was an active member, deacon and Sunday school superintendent at Riverdale Baptist Church for more than 42 years. He was preceded in death by his former wife, Delila (``Jane"") Abshire Gross. He is survived by his wife, Nellie Bowles Gross; children, Carolyn Gross Jones of Weems and James Michael Gross of Roanoke; grandchildren, Melissa Abby Gross, Tyler Marshall Jones and Aaron David Jones; brothers, William M. Gross of Bedford and Rubin Gross of Montvale, and sisters, Ruth Gross Leonard of Vinton and Odell Gross Giles of Montvale. HALE, Bertie Jane, 86, of Roanoke, died Tuesday, November 5, 1996. She was the widow of Howard E. Hale. Surviving are two daughters, Eleanor H. Hall, Daleville, Linda H. MUNDY, Leonidas Howard, (``Lee""), 52, of Buena Vista, died Monday, November 4, 1996, at his residence. He was born December 26, 1943, in Charlottesville, a son of Ellen Perley Mundy of Charlottesvile and the late James Leonidas Mundy. Mr. Mundy served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietman War. He was a member of Knights of Pythias Lodge #66, Lexington, and Lexington Moose Lodge. He was employed by Charles W. Barger and Sons of Lexington as a construction supervisor. Survivors include his wife, Patsy Jane Snyder Mundy; one son, Leonidas Paul Mundy of Charlottesville; three daughters, Mary Christine (``Chrissie"") Walters of Fairfield, Teresa (``Terry"") Lee Smiley of Brownsburg and Pamela Jane Hamilton of Lexington; one brother, Frank S. Mundy of Charlottesville; eight grandchildren, April L. Walters, Destinee Amber Higgins, Christine N. Smiley, Matthew P. Mundy, Richard Smiley, Joseph Patrick Walters, Elizabeth LeAnn Smiley and Joshua Owens Hamilton; a very special friend, Larry Loving of Afton; two nieces, Marquette and Ashley Mundy of Charlottesville, and one nephew, J. PARKER, Gladie Ann Dooley, 87, of Thaxton, di ed Sunday, November 3, 1996. She was born in Bedford County on March 28, 1909, a daughter of the late Andrew Jackson Dooley and Ellen Cora Orange Dooley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen McCabe Parker; a son, Andrew Jackson Parker; five brothers, Hilton Dooley, Letcher Dooley, Jeffie Dooley, Herman Dooley, and Otey Dooley. Gladie was a member of Cool Springs Presbyterian Church. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Lloyd and Fran Parker, Sarasota, Fla.; four sisters, Otelia Overstreet, Bedford, Eula Ruff, Thaxton, Myrtle Orange and June Morris, both of Bridgeton, N.J.; two granddaughters, Louann Heineken, Miami, Fla., Valerie Ekstrom, Port Isabel, Texas; three great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, November 7, 1996 at the Carder-Tharp Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Geoff Hubbard officiating. Burial will follow in the Parker Family Cemetery. POINDEXTER, Dazell Leeroy, 47, of Roanoke, passed away Sunday, November 3, 1996. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hamlar-Curtis Chapel, with the Rev. Thomas Woods Sr. officiating. RAMSEY, Albert Harrison, 78, of 1010 Pine Crest Ave., Bedford, died Tuesday, November 5, 1996, in a Lynchburg Health Care Center. He was born in Bedford, July 4, 1918, a son of the late Walter Glenwood Ramsey and Lelia Virginia Dooley Ramsey. He was preceded in death by a brother, Glenwood Armistead Ramsey; and his sister, Irene Ramsey Venisky. He was a member of Bedford Baptist Church, a 1940 graduate of VPI, commissioned a Captain in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he served in the Pacific Theatre, and was a retired employee of Rubatex Corp. He retired from the Army Reserve in 1978 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He had served the Town of Bedford as Town Manager from 1961 to 1968 and following Bedford's transition to a City, he served as City Manager from 1968 to 1973. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Abbott Ramsey; two daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela Ramsey and Tracey D. Cooter of Appomattox, Susan Ramsey and Michael W. Newton of Richmond; two sisters, Ruby Ramsey Saunders and Mary Ramsey Venable, both of Bedford; also seven grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, November 7, 1996, at the Carder-Tharp Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dr. David L. Henderson officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to either Bedford Baptist Church , Bedford Life Saving Crew or the American Cancer Society. RICHARDSON, W. Miller, 89, of Grundy, passed away Tuesday, November 5, 1996, in Buchanan General Hospital, Grundy, following an extended illness. Born in Mingo County, W.Va., he was a son of the late Dr. A. S. and Grace Miller Richardson. He had been a resident of Grundy most of his life and was a member of Buchanan First Presbyterian Church. He attended Tate Prepatory School in Shelbyville, Tenn.; Benjamin Franklin University in Washington, D.C.; the University of Virginia; and was a graduate of Hampden-Sydney College, Class of 1930. He was owner and manager of Richardson Furniture Company from 1937 through 1977. Mr. Richardson was a civic-minded individual, having served as mayor for the Town of Grundy from 1982 through 1992 and 1994 through 1996. He was a charter member of the Grundy Kiwanis Club, having served as the club President and member of the Board of Directors, and was named ``Kiwanian of the Year"" for 1980-81. He had served the Capital District of Kiwanis International as Lieutenant Governor for the year 1985, and had served on the Board of Directors for several years for the Capital District. He represented the Grundy Kiwanis Club and the Capital Distroct by attending 31 Kiwanis International Conventions during the years of 1954 through 1993. He was instrumental with his vision in building the Grundy Kiwanis Park in Royal City, which is enjoyed by citizens throughout the area. He was a commissioned Kentucky Colonel, a member of the Buchanan County Chamber of Commerce where he served on the Board of Directors, and a member of the Litter Control Board. He served his country during World War II as a member of the United States Army, and was a member of the John Ratliff Post #164 of the American Legion. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Grace Alexandria Meranda of Williamsburg, Ohio; one son-in-law, Kirk Meranda of Williamsburg, Ohio; two grandsons, Justin and Christopher Meranda, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Dr. James Stuart Richardson, and one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Richardson Bane. Funeral services for W. Miller Richardson will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Friday, November 8, 1996, at Buchanan First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Woody Alexander, Dr. Murphy Miller and Evangelist Clarence Greenleaf officiating. Enbombment will follow in the Richardson Mausoleum in Hibbitts Cemetery, Grundy. The body will remain at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel, where friends may call at 5 p.m. Wednesday, and then will be moved to Buchanan First Presbyterian Church at 12:30 p.m. Friday to await the funeral hour at 1:30 p.m. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Hale, John Fleenor Sr., Omer Bunn, Alice Yates, Sarah Coleman, Ruby Elswick, Virginia Whitt, Gail Humbert, Brenda Crawford, Mildred Trout, Thurman Boyd, Dr. J. P. Sutherland Sr., Dr. J. Patel, Dr. Clint Sutherland, Junior Landreth, Thomas M. Richardson, Dr. James Richardson and Eugene M. Bane, Jr. There will be services at the funeral home chapel at 7 p.m. Thursday. Full military rites will be conducted at the cemetery by members of John Ratliff Post #164 of the American Legion, Childs Gentry Post #7360 of Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 59. SMITH, Joel Thomas, 89, of Rocky Mount, died Tuesday, November 5, 1996 at his home surrounded by many loving family members. He was born July 17, 1907, to the late Luther A. and Lillie Rakes Smith. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy Hundley Smith of the home; a daughter, Janet Hammock and husband, Bobby of Rocky Mount; a son, J. Alvin Smith and wife, Macie of Rocky Mount; five grandchildren, Bob Hammock, Palm Harbor, Fla; Denny Smith, Martinsville; Torri Walker, Todd Hammock, Chad Smith all of Franklin County; three great-grandchildren, two sisters, Goldie Edwards, Ferrum; Docie Hale, Roanoke; and many nieces and nephews; special caretakers, Betty Hood, Bonnie Altice and Marsha Tyree. TENNANT, Ginger Sue, 36, of Fountain Inn, S.C., formerly of Buena Vista, Va., died Monday, November 4, 1996, in St. Francis Community Hospital, Greenville, S.C. Born on April 1, 1960, in Rockbridge County, Va.,, she was the daughter of Clarence Mack Mason and Jerylene Beverly Mason of Natural Bridge Station, Va. Mrs. Tennant had worked for many years at Burlington Industries in Glasgow, Va. Surviving in addition to her parents are her husband, James Tennant Sr. of Fountain Inn; daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Robert Dameron of Glasgow; daughter, Shelly Walters of Fountain Inn; son, Travis Walters of Lexington, Va.; stepdaughter, Tonya Kerr of Wahala, S.C.; four sisters, Janet Wallace of Natural Bridge, Va., Jennifer Deacon of Lexington, Charlene Painter of Buchanan, Va., and Darlene Wright of Buena Vista; granddaughter, Destinee Sue Dameron of Glasgow, and two stepchildren, Christopher Ryan and Cameron Kerr of Wahala, S.C.
