A story on Wednesday's Business page about extended local calling
plans for Botetourt County phone customers incorrectly referred to new
rates for Buchanan phone customers, who are served by Bell Atlantic
Corp. The new monthly service rates apply to R&B Telephone Co. customers
in Eagle Rock, who now can make calls to most Roanoke exchanges without
      paying long-distance charges.

R&B EXCHANGES OK TOLL-FREE CALLS

Starting Dec. 1, customers in R&B Telephone Co.'s Buchanan exchange will be able to make toll-free local calls to most Roanoke exchanges and phone customers will see an increase in their basic monthly service charge.

Buchanan callers with a residential one-party flat rate will see an increase of $6.50 a month. Callers billed on a one-party message rate will $4 a month more, and business customers will pay $10.25 more, R&B said.

Also Dec. 1, R&B customers in the Fincastle exchange will no longer have to pay long-distance charges to call Buchanan. The residential one-party flat rate for Fincastle customers will rise $1.35 per month, the message rate 75 cents and the business rate $2.25 to $2.50.
