ETC. Express loses goalie to AHL
Roanoke Express goaltender Paul Taylor has been called up by the Saint John Flames, Roanoke's American Hockey League affiliate.
Saint John helped arrange for Taylor to come to Roanoke a week ago after he had a brief stint with the Fort Wayne (Ind.) Komets of the International Hockey League. Taylor was 1-1 in two starts with the Express - a 3-0 shutout against the Charlotte Checkers on Nov.1 and a 5-3 loss to the Pensacola Ice Pilots on Wednesday.
``I hate to lose him,'' said Pierre Paiement, Roanoke's general manager. ``But I would rather see him moving up with our affiliation than any other team at that level. This way we will always have a chance for him to come back to Roanoke during the regular season or the playoffs.''
* Chad Harris, the 1996 Late Model Stock champion at the New River Valley Speedway, was honored this past weekend in Nashville, Tenn. at the Winston Racing Series Champions Banquet.
