An Eagle Rock man was injured Friday in a natural gas explosion at a granary in northern Botetourt County.
Doug Taliaferro, in his late 30s, received first-and second-degree burns when a gas leak at Blue Stone Farm was ignited by an electrical short about 2 p.m., a Botetourt County Sheriff's Office report said. Taliaferro is an employee at Blue Stone.
It's unclear how close Taliaferro was to the explosion, but Eagle Rock Fire Chief Darrell Johns said Taliaferro must have been close because his hair was singed.
Firefighters from several departments all over the county responded and got the fire out before 6. Johns said there was some damage to a building at the granary from the fire, and some windows and doors were blown out by the explosion.
Taliaferro was in Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in stable condition, in a progressive care unit for observation, Friday evening, a resource nurse said.
