VIRGINIAN-PILOT NAMES NEW EDITOR

Addis has been The Pilot's human resources director since 1991 and before that held a variety of positions with the paper. She will assume her new duties next Monday.

``I come back to news five years older, and five years wiser,'' Addis told the staff. ``I look forward to working with old colleagues and talented newcomers.''

Addis was one of five candidates for editor, said Bruce Bradley, the newspaper's president and publisher.

Addis, a native of Altavista, is a graduate of the College of William and Mary. She has worked in Norfolk since 1974, when she became a staff writer for The Ledger-Star, the city's former afternoon paper.

After that, she served as Norfolk city editor, editor of The Pilot's Daily Break section, projects editor and writing coach, assistant managing editor, deputy managing editor and deputy executive editor.

Both The Virginian-Pilot and The Roanoke Times are owned by Landmark Communications Inc.
