NARROW OT WIN FOR GREEN WAVE

Suzanne Webb scored 29 points and pulled down eight rebounds to lead Narrows to a 59-58 overtime victory over Chilhowie on Tuesday night in a Region C tournament quarterfinal on the Green Wave's floor.

Webb missed the front end of a one-and-one with three seconds remaining in regulation time and the score tied at 54 to send the game to overtime. But she made up for it in the extra period.

The Green Wave called time out on offense trailing 58-57 with 10 seconds left in overtime and drew up a play for Webb. She scored with six seconds left to take a 59-58 lead and a Warriors half-court heave at the buzzer missed.

Narrows had a 10-point halftime lead, but Kristy Poe scored eight and Emily Blevins had six points in the third quarter to cut the Chilhowie deficit in half. The Warriors hit 24 of 33 free-throw attempts in the game.

Bud Lucas scored 10 points and had seven assists and six steals for the Green Wave. Tara Collins added 14 rebounds to her nine points.

Narrows (19-5) will play at 8 p.m. Thursday against Floyd County, an 89-61 winner over Covington, at Christiansburg High School.

In other Region C quarterfinals:

Parry McCluer 54, Galax 34: Lindsey Coleman scored 30 points, and the Fighting Blues used pressure defense to advance to a regional semifinal with a victory in Buena Vista.

Clarissa Johnson added 10 points for Parry McCluer, which only led by eight before pulling away in the second half.

Erin Kyle scored 14 points and Keisha Ayers had 11 for Galax, which finishes its season with a 16-9 record.

The Fighting Blues (18-6) will meet Northwood, a 75-59 winner over Glenvar, at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Christiansburg High School with a Group A berth on the line.

Northwood 75, Glenvar 59: The Panthers parlayed superb free-throw shooting and a 34-point effort by Jill Woodward into a quarterfinal victory over the Highlanders in Saltville.

Northwood (21-4) hit 29 of 34 from the line, including a school-record 14-for-14 performance by Serena Jones, who added 21 points. The Panthers will meet Parry McCluer in a semifinal at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Christiansburg High School.

Glenvar (17-7) struggled from the free-throw line, hitting nine of 17 shots.

Erika Hale led the Highlanders (17-7) with 24 points.

Region IV

Grundy 54, Bassett 47: Sophomore Leigh Farmer scored 23 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, blocked seven shots and added four steals to spark the Golden Wave to a first-round victory over the Bengals in Grundy.

The Golden Wave led most of the way until the Bengals went ahead early in the fourth quarter. Farmer scored four consecutive points to start a 10-0 run that gave Grundy a 49-40 advantage with 3:16 remaining.

The Golden Wave (17-6) will play at 7 p.m. Thursday at Marion.

The Bengals (19-6) were led by Heather Miller, who scored 23 points.

Patrick County 53, Virginia-Bristol 48: Holly Weber scored a game-high 21 points - 15 on 3-pointers - as the Cougars won their first-round matchup with the Bearcats in Stuart.

Anitra Huff came up with two steals late in the game that resulted in Cougars points and she scored 11 in the game. The score was tied at 46, but Alison Brammer hit four of six free-throw attempts in the final two minutes to give her 11 points for the night.

Natasha Owens scored 20 points and Natasha Pender added 14 for the Bearcats.

The Cougars (19-4) will visit Richlands at 7 p.m. Thursday in a regional semifinal.
