Jacksonville Center kicks off fund drive
FLOYD - The organizers of The Jacksonville Center, Floyd County's newest cultural, arts and community center, have announced the start of their Fall Fund Drive. The donation drive will run through the end of the year and will focus on developing a funding source for capital improvements to be made to the facility. The goal for the drive is $25,000.
Fund-raising chair Randall Jamison anticipates that the Jacksonville Center will be a prime tourist draw for the region. Long-term master plans include an outdoor amphitheater, gardens, parking facilities, a large public assembly space and a visitors' information bureau.
The immediate goal is to finish out the back end of the barn's first floor. When the first floor becomes completely usable, the Center may have space available for long-term rental as retail outlets. Eventually, small assemblies may be accommodated indoors.
Lee Chichester, Board president, invites the public to make suggestions and become involved with the project by calling the Center, attending the Citizen's Advisory Group meetings, and by becoming a voting member.
Contributions of materials and labor will be accepted as well as money. Tax-deductible donations may be sent to The Jacksonville Center, P.O. Box 932, Floyd, Va., 24091. For more details about gift levels, materials contributions, membership, square-foot sponsorships, newsletter subscriptions, or Citizen's Advisory Group, write to the above address, or call 540-745-2784.
