LENGTH: Short : 23 lines
ILLUSTRATION: PHOTO: Dean Carter, the first chairman of what is now the

Department of Art and Art History at Virginia Tech, has spent his

entire life teaching and creating works of art. The sculptor will

talk about his career Sunday at 3 p.m. in the Blacksburg Recreation

Center. The free talk is sponsored by the Blacksburg Regional Art

Association. Now professor emeritus, Carter exhibits and travels

around the world. He recently attended the dedication of Ikenoue

Christ Church in Japan. Sixteen of his sculptures, commissioned by

Carter's former student Akira Inadomi, are in the church. Carter's

work also graces churches, hospitals and public buildings in

Blacksburg, Roanoke and the Virginia Tech campus.
