HOPING FOR A GLOWING CHRISTMAS SEASON

Holiday shoppers still have 41 days to find those perfect gifts, but only 18 days remain to register in the second annual Festival of Lights contest.

The Roanoke Times and the Roanoke Special Events Committee are again asking holiday lights enthusiasts to enter their outdoor trimmings and compete in the following categories: most humorous, best one-color display, best theme, best Christmas tree and best religious display. Five entries will receive honorable mentions.

Residences and businesses entering must be in Roanoke, Roanoke County, Salem or Vinton.

Displays must be completed by Dec. 2, and lighted between dusk and 10 p.m. Dec. 2 through 5 for judging.

The winners of last year's contest are not eligible, but may enter again next year.

Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony Dec. 6 and featured in the Dec. 19 Neighbors section. Winners and those awarded honorable mentions must light displays nightly through Dec. 31.
