The former president of a Virginia college will use an insanity defense when he goes on trial for the murder of his wife at their Lake Michigan home, his attorney said Tuesday.
John Upton, 64, was president of Rappahannock Community College at the time of his wife's death July 2.
Kathleen Upton, 63, was bludgeoned, stabbed and smothered at their summer home. She was mentally ill, and John Upton told a 911 dispatcher, ``I had become exasperated over the constant demands.''
