Last year, 10 million Americans quit smoking for at least a day during the Great American Smokeout. But many participants may have found themselves without a specific plan on how to quit successfully.
This year, the American Cancer Society is offering a free ``Commit to Quit'' plan through a toll-free hot line and pharmacies across the nation.
Smokers who want to quit can visit their local pharmacy or call the American Cancer Society at 1-800-227-2345 to receive a free brochure on developing personal strategies to quit and preparing for the Smokeout. Pharmacists will be on call at 1-800-610-2742 to answer questions about quitting smoking Thursday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. This year's Great American Smokeout will be Thursday.
